Question Performance mods that don't change sound

I am considering a performance mods but one thing I like about the TL is the low engine noise from inside the cabin. What are some performance mods that won't increase or change the sound (I might consider mods that make the sound better but not louder)? and how much hp does it boost. if i'm not mistaken, CAI makes the engine louder I heard.. So any ideas?

remove the lower intake resonator- only gets louder during VTEC useage FREE MOD!
Agree on the UR pulley- faster revs to the powerband and less weight is very good
Thermoblock Intake manifold spacer moves torque band slightly left and stronger pull-silent!
See DIY section for those mods

I almost choked reading that reply lol
Headers will make big noise all the time
Any CAI system is going to make more noise than stock.
The budget-remove intake resonator+add good flowing air filter is the trick
The OP has on 00. If you cut open the fake foglight cover on driver side, you open a massive cubic footage area for outside air to enter and be pulled/sucked by the engine intake vacuum thru a 3-4 inch hole that is built into the bottom of the air filter box. The stock setup severly restricts the airflow.
I just passed CA smog, running even cleaner than last time after seafoam and new NGKs

Each of these mods will yield 3-8 hp each, you can tell it runs much freerer and is more fun to drive, but not like you added 50 hp to a 230 hp car- a total push yo uin the seats thing.
Get good BRAKES!!

if u remove the intake resonator it will make a humming noise while idling and will get louder during driving. performance with out changing a sound would be, UR pulley, intake manifold and throttle body spacers, u could always so nitrous with like a 50 or 75 shot.

With the stock exhaust headers wont make the car louder.

cmon- hard running withheaders and these stay quiet- I mean - I do defer to you in this matter of course as I was speculating based mainly on V8 experience
Headers cost what-300 and take several hours and whatever is left of the skin on your hands to install them?

I have no hum or noises with the res gone and a K&N air filter- just the sweet sweet sound of air flowing into the engine in VTEC rpms

^X2. No "extra" noise from this mod at all....and it's free (except for the K&N). Everyone should do this one if not already.

My car hummed like crazy with the resonator removed. It drove me nuts, where I got a CAI instead.

Comptech Icebox is quiet, although a CAI is as well until you go WOT. UR pully offers good gains, as well as the thermoblock spacers and IM gasket.

Headers will increase noise but not as much as an aftermarket exhaust would.

K&N was first mod to car after purchase so I dont think of it as part of the same job.
The res wasn't until I had the bumper off recently to install the black headlight housings. Then I looked at it and said, Hand me a 10mil on a long extension ratchet. OK now the big pliers for this little piece-Yank~

Wife saw part in garage- whats this? Oh nothing important

Headers don't increase engine noise much at all. Espeically if you only have a K&N dop in air filter. I'd go headers, K&N drop-in, UR crank pulley, TB spacer kit, upgraded 4ga grounds, NGK iriidium's and a VAFC Neo with a tune and you'll be a silent assasin.

the tone of my car changed ever so slightly (for the better) with headers but it didnt get louder with the stock mufflers on. If you didnt know they were put on you never would

At 16yrs old, you actually care about keeping the car quiet? Is this your parents car and you don't want them to know that you've modded it or something?

I second the Icebox recommendation.

live in the US, where you get your permit at 16 and can drive by yourself at 16.5 (with curfew). Full license comes at 17.

yea. my tl had 123k miles and wasn't in the best cosmetic condition. i got it for 5.9k in november, which is pretty cheap. if i didn't ask for the TL/ES/I30, parents probably would have bought me a $7-8k civic/accord/altima/maxima etc. but i like the TL
