Painting Calipers

I am going to get a total custom brake job in about 2 weeks from now, just in time for the Woodward Cruise!! My question to you guys is I need to paint my calipers, black is my color of choice, would it work if i just took my tires off, cleaned my calipers and spray painted them with high temp paint, and i would cover my body panels with newspaper for overspray of course, how long would this take, and it it cool to get the paint on the old rotors since i am changing them anyway!!

I just took my tires off and masked the brakes off with masking tape and newspaper and covered the car with an old sheet. Than i scrubed the brakes with a wire brush and sprayed on some wheel cleaner. They need to be really clean for the paint to stick well so take your time and do a good job. Than i put on about 3-4 coats of high temp spray paint and put the tire back on while they dried so i could go onto another brake. It took me forever because i didnt have jack stands so i used the crappy acura jack for each wheel and had to wait and wait for the paint to dry. I did this about 9 months ago and they still look pretty good. Good luck

I don't have it done on my car...but I helped a friend do it and it turned out pretty nicely. We used DuPont Engine Enamel, about 4 coats spaced out about 1/2 hour apart. After those coats had dried, we followed up with 3 coats of clear enamel to give them a nice shine, which worked really well. I would let them dry at least 6-8 hours.

Hey,

Can you remind me again when the woodward dream cruise is? I just live across the border... I had a friend pick up a Foliatec brake caliper paint kit and it seems pretty straightforward. Make sure the calipers are really clean (they provide a solvent and be sure to use a wire brush) and use masking tape to cover the parts of the brake you don't want to get paint on (lines, discs, 'bleeder nose', etc). The Foliatec kit comes with a brush so you directly apply the paint to the calipers (as opposed to spraying it on with high temp engine paint). Based on my experience with installing the body kit, be sure to have axle stands / ramps -- you need to lift your car to make life easier! Hope that helps.

What color are you going with? Black car ... most go with red. I have the eternal blue pearl and I think yellow would look really sharp.

Maybe we could have a MI / ONT meet in the near future?

would black calipers look clean on a silver tl? i wanted blue, but when i saw it on a silver tl at a car show....i didn't really like it, because it's the only thing blue on the car.

i painted mine 2 days ago also with dupont engine enamel in blue, 3 coats spaced an hour each coat, it took me and my dad two days to do all 4 wheels, it has a nice shine to it without spraying on anything else, i like it
i also painted my license plate holder the same color with the left over paint,
others can try this too, looks pretty good VERY unique

Wow, thanx for all the response, i was thinking about painting them black, but now i am thinking of red, but with red there is maintanence required as for black it's pretty much black!

derrick, whats up dude, the cruise is on the 15th of August, I think it would be cool if we got a band of TL's and went together, let me know!!
