P0740

hi all, I have a 2003 Acura TL with 163,000 miles.the car has a rebuilt tranny. I was driving the other day and the check engine light came on but no blinking D. I got home and hooked up the obd and it was the dreaded p0740. I don’t feel anything different in shifting as of now(knock on wood lol).I honestly don’t know how the mechanic rebuilt the tranny. I don’t n ow if he just replaced the gears or what but the car use to bang into drive and would bang going from 2nd to 3rd. It was worst In The winter for some reason. everything was good until 3 days ago when the light came on. I been doing a little research on it and have found a lot of people fix the problem by cleaning/replacing the tranny solenoid(don’t know exact name of it). I know there is one under/near the battery tray. Is there another one on bottom of tranny and anyone have a diagram or pic of where it is located?while at it is there anything else I should try such as a drain and refill/tranny filter? Is there any write ups/diy on here? I tried searching but the page was deleted. Thank you very much

FWIW: Try searching ( P0740 ). All the information your looking for should be listed, up to and including, IF NECESSARY, replacing the transmission with the Honda Accord AV6 transmission.

How many miles on the rebuilt tranny?

Your code is P0740 OBD-II Trouble Code: Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction. Plenty of YT vids to diagnose and replace if needed.

Good luck

Unfortunately It's likely to be a little more complicated than that. Chances are the solenoid is fine and the solenoid is clogging with debris in the system from failing components. Like Frankjnjr said, research P0740 on this forum and you will find a few hours of reading material.

Well the first part did include DIAGNOSE. There are also plenty of YT vids on removing the actuators/solenoids and cleaning/inspecting the screens as well as testing the circuitry.. I did this on mine this past weekend.

I don't disagree, a proper diagnosis is always needed. I'm just offering my personal experiences and those from others on this forum for the last 17yrs.
