Code #P0740
Code #P0740
Had my Check Engine Light come on in my car ('97, 2.2, 70k), and the code was P0740: AT clutch problem. The car still runs normally, with no apparent problems. My mechanic reset the light, and it hasn't come back on in the last 2 days. He said to keep an eye on it.
Of course, my first thought was "oh shit, not the transmission," but it doesn't seem like anything to worry about for now. Honestly, I think that if the transmission goes, the car is going too. After my accident last year, I don't think the car is worth enough to warrant it.
Any thoughts?

sounds like clutch packs may be running low and need to be replaced if i were you i would look out for a tranny slipping
do a tranny fluid flush as well asap if you can i would do a dual flush to make sure most of the particles of metal are out

its not the clutch packs its the lock up clutch solonoid. it works with the torque converter to restrict fluid flow to prevent from overrevving the pump and the clutch packs. it is prolly the lock up control solonoid valve. the bad news is u have to take it to a tranny shop to have them do a clutch pressure test. i wouldnt sit on this and think it is just a one time thing. fix it now before it becomes a serious problem.
