Has anyone replaced their Power Steering pump? Is there a DIY on this? How hard is it? I'm mechanically inclines, but never tackled on this sort of job before.

i dont know of a DIY on it but its pretty easy. First thing to do is loosen the tensioner nut (the engine cover has a relief cut out for it). then take the 2 hoses off of it have rags ready to help keep excess fluid from coming out all over the place and move them out of the way. Then there are 3 bolts for it. one under neath one that attaches to the tension bolt and one towards the firewall. Once you get them loosened the belt will come off then its just a matter of removing the bolts.

I replaced my daughter's Accord ps/pump a few years ago. The replacement pump did not come with the pulley so I had to re-use the stock one. If I remember correctly it had left-handed threads. A pnuematic impact gun helps taking the pulley off alot easier.

If the pump failed due to crud in the system, consider flushing it with fresh fluid BEFORE you install the new pump
Use honda power steering fluid,
you can use seafoam trans flush in the steering, then fully flush with clean fluid - then install new pump and fill with fresh honda steering fluid

I'm just wrapping up changing my timing belt on my 00 TL. I don't have a belt tensioner tool so I have to do it manually. In the shop manual it says to apply 22 ft/lbs of pressure and measure how far from vertical the belt moves. My question is, anyone have a rough estimate of 22 ft/lbs of pressure?
I've read of a few people on here frying their power steering pump by overtightening the belt and I definitely don't want to do that. Thanks.

I've got a torque wrench. I'm referring to the tension exerted on the actual belt. The belt is aligned vertically between the P/S pulley and the crankshaft pulley. To test the tension, you can either use a tool (I don't have it and don't want to buy it) or you can apply perpendicular pressure (22 ft/lbs) to the belt and measure how far you move the belt from the vertical axis.
At any rate, is there any one with some tips on tightening the p/s belt without a tool who didn't fry the pump?

Most of your reputable parts stores offer loaner specialty tools. You normally have to put down a deposit to insure the tool is returned, but otherwise is a good way to go when needing those "one time use" expensive tools.
