Engine RESOTRE oil addivitive??

So I'm gonna be doing my oil change tommorow, it's gonna be my first time using Royal Purple 5W-30, Gonna fill ith with 4.5L and through in a can of Restore, I;m wondering if that stuff really works??. I really hope my piston slap will disappear. I feel like such a fag with a TL that has knocking comming from the engine ALL the TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything else I could try to help reduce the sound of knocking???

Do NOT add anything to the engine!!!!
Run a compression check dry and wet to see if you have a ring problem or whats making noise.
How was slap diagnosed? whats really happening?
You may just need to run seafoam in the engine oil- on a new filter and the old oil,
so new filter can be able to catch the crud
My car gave up a lot of gunk with 100 mile drive then change oil and filter
That will clear the oil passages and unstick rings with glaze on them

IMO clean and diagnose before anything goes into the engine

I brought it in to 2 of the best dealers in my area, both service managers told me that my pistons were slapping, they acted to normal though as if it was a normal problem. One service manager said "it's not the first time i've seen this on a TL, I also have oddessy's that make alot more noise". The second service manager laughed in my face when I asked him if my engine was dieng, he said not to worry for another 200k. I also got 4 Acura Techs to also look at it and they all come to the same opionion that it's just a noise, nothing more than that. It will not ever effect the drivability, performance or the life of the engine its just a simple annoyance.

So i'm living with a TL that makes noise like a taxi Impala/Buick. I want it to STOP without having to rebuild tha engine.

ok well restore just coats the gouges in the walls of the cylinders- thats not your problem

I would get a fram/low cost filter- install it- add 1 can seafoam and drive- watching the dipstick color for change.
Replace engine oil and filter with quality name brand 5-30 and enjoy

Have you done a cleaning of the intake manifold with some brand product?
gets the carbon off the piston tops-that may help too

140 000 Miles, It wasnt the sales men that diagnosed it, it was one serive manger form my local Acura dealership and 2 mechanics from the Acura dealer, along with another service manager and 2 other mechanics at a different dealership.

I had a ticking noise, that turned out to be the valves. Adjusted them and my motor is a lot quieter. It's still louder then I'd like but I have 125K it's not new.

miles shouldnt matter. My motor with 210 on it was as quiet as the day i got it. My type-s motor is slightly louder but still very quiet (after valve adjustment) with 110k on it.

I likely have an unrealistic expectation on how this motor should sound. At idle with the doors/windows closed I cannot hear it running, so I guess it's quiet.

Ive pretty much owned hondas/acuras my whole life and on higher mileage cars, you'll get the honda tick from the valves. Once my h22 hit 100k it was ticking like it was going to die, but ran like a champ!

its pretty unusual to get actual rod knock-
as suggested, check the valve adjustment'
Was the 105k mile service with timing belt-water pump- spark plugs and more done?
Thats the earliest anyone thinks about adjusting the valves, but its often not done because of the expense of the rest of the service... and the book only says check- it doesnt say adjust dededeee

The timing belt was done at 70k at the dealersahip, and I added RESTORE today along with a Royal Purple oil. There's No difference the noise is still there next step is going to be a vavle adjustment. Anyone know how much this would cost at the dealership???

Sorry, the Restore is useless and could potentially interfere with the additive package in engine oil. I would dump this mix and refill it with 5w-30 (you have a 99 right?) oil without any additional additives.

The valve adjustment is a VERY good idea and it is billed at three hours labor I believe. So your cost would be three hours labor (at 100 to 160/hr, depending on the shop) and a valve cover gasket kit. You're looking at around $400 depending on where you go.

why did you add restore before doing an oil system cleaning, to see what that does, then adjust the valves if needed

Ha, I'd love to see that. 1.5 hours unlikely

Either, on new oil max 100 miles, on old oil only a few miles.

If you think it's going to do anything, it's a waste of time. Doesn't resolve ticking.
