Oil overfilled
Oil overfilled
I just noticed when checking my dipstick that it was overfilled by about a quart. Should I just leave it be or drain it? I've always been taught that it was very bad for the engine to have too much oil in it.
I was told that too. Had to do with pressure or what not. You may have to let a little out very carefully or get one of those hand pump dipstick oil changers to take some oil out if you don't want to get under the car. If you can get under the car easily, you can let some ooze out, and re-check the levels. I may be Capt Obvious here, but you were on level ground when you checked the level right?

1. you will lost compression = power
2.with time you will blow the engine's gasket
I would drain the extra oil ...........

Oh and to make sure I checked it a second time the first thing in the morning before going to work. It was in the garage on a level surface.

Overfilling can lead to frothing in the valvetrain when air mixes in with the oil. This leads to a decrease in lubrication. Get it drained as soon as you can.

<------------had friend fill it up while i was working under the car and didnt realize he put 6 qts in and i ran it like that for 8 k, thats when i discovered i was 1 qt short for my next oil change. never did any damage
Sorry for the awful quality of the pic, but this should give you an idea how overfilled it is.
The shop couldn't get to it until tomorrow morning.
Should I be ok driving it as long as I don't mash on it?
