Oil Changes on a 99

I have had my oil changes done at the dealer since new. Now that car is over 10 years old. Do you think it would be alright to go to those quick lubes places now? Oil Changes done at dealer cost around $42 CDN, its about the same as the quick lube places. Only difference is that the quick places seem to be faster.

Change your own oil.

I don't trust any of those shops with my car. Especially on "quick" jobs where they can get careless.

if u go to the local quick lube shops u run a risk of them ruining ur engine. heard stories and saw it happen to a few friends. either not enough oil, no oil or they just dont change it.

It is really easy to do it yourself! One of the most satisfying things you can do and know it is done right!

I trust those quick shops slightly less than the dealer oil change
Both have a minimum wage person doing the job
Chances are they dont use a torque wrench to check the oil pan bolt
When you overtighten it- the most common thing to happen, then the threads get ripped out of the oil pan,,or the plug falls out while driving--thats always fun!

If you can talk to the oil tech and verify they are doing the job right-,,,,ok

Look for a small private shop that does hondas normally- at least they may care about customer relations

Some of the quick lube places do not remove drain plug, they suck out the oil. So, I do not go near them. I have heard Walmart has started doing this at their lube change locations. Do it yourself & you know it's done right.

probably doing that to avoid the hazard of stripped drain plugs!
Vac method would be ok on a TL- not that much sludge normally if
you keep up on a cleaning program before oil change
