Noob Needs Help w/ Oil Change

I normally take my car to the dealership to get its serviced, but I figured I don't feel like paying the $150+ 7500 mile service every couple months. I was planning on switching to full synthetic, probably mobil-1 5w-30. I'm looking for K&N filters and I just want to make sure if the model number K33HP1004 is the right filter for our cars?

Also what tools do I need to change the oil (its my first time)? I know I need a socket wrench, oil pan... anything else?

And what else do you guys normally maintain every 7500 miles? So far I brought it to the dealer every 7500 miles, but i'm planning on changing the oil every 5000 now.

Yeah, don't waste your time and money with dealership service. Changing is pretty quick when you do it yourself.

i was going to ramp mine last time but when i put the ramps in place they were a litte to close to the bumper for my liking so i just jacked and put it on jack stands(this process took just as long as the entire oil change)

tip: get a box of those cheap throw away gloves with grips it makes getting the filter off much easier and you dont get all dirty!

Just tighten the oil plug about 1/2 turn past tight - snug - no reason to be real tight at all. The oil filter is the same way, once the filter touches the seal, go about 1/2-3/4 more of a turn and you are good to go.

I used to have those ramps, but with a front wheel drive car, it was kinda hard getting it up there smoothly. So now I just use good ole jack stands.

Thanks guys I got a jack and some jack stands. My friend should have a socket wrench.

But can anyone tell me if the K&N Filter model number K33HP1004 is the right filter? I went to www.knfilter.com and it list that as the model for our car, but Imma look for it in autozone or something before I order it online, so I just want to make sure? Anyone want to confirm this?

Hell I always take mine to the stealership to get mine changed.... took it today and it was 27 bucks even after taxes. They always check my tire pressure, vaccum, and wash it for free. IMHO you cant beat that. My father takes his dumb BMW to stupid jiffylube for 35 bucks and its NOT synthetic. Fuck that... I'll take it to Acura any day and then they can put the genuine Honda filter in it, wash it, vaccum it, and dispose of the old oil for me.

Well most acura these days uses the new oil filter, which is made by fram meaning its a pos. And how do you know what kind of oil they put in (cheap vs pricey). Another thing, is taht when they wash ur car, they leave lots of swirl marks since they reuse the towel even if they dropped it (i saw this happen with my own eyes)

I always request no wash. They won'd do it if you tell them to... unless they forget of course. But I never had problem on that end. I use FRAM and my lab results on my cars show no difference with OEM honda filter and mobile1. I really don't see what the problem is with the filter as long as my oil is good and lab data shows now impurities. That is as long as you change out oilfilter often enough.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and the K&N oil filter. The correct part number is HP-1004 and that is how it is listed on the filter box.

You can use a socket to remove and tighten the K&N oil filter. I usually tighen by hand and then use the socket to tighen another 1/2 to 3/4 round.

You may also want to get a plier type oil wrench to remove the old OEM filter. They are less than $5 at most parts stores and Wal-mart.

I always ask for a honda filter... and they always use one. They've never scratched my car... but that is a very valid point. It just needed to be washed, and it was so friggin cold out yesterday I didn't want to do it myself.
