noob

ok so I came home one day from work and in my driveway was a 99tl, nice black lookes good. My dad got it for me, and read up on it just to see what kind of car I got. Now i read everywhere that 2000-up TL have problems with tranny and that its expencive to fix it.I wanna know if thats the same story for the 99 4 speed. for now i cant tell that it has any problems and there is 155 000 km on it. what can I expect in the future and how much time I have before serious problems?

nice... congrats on the new ride!

its true that the 5 speed has more tranny problems than the 4 speed. that being said, the 4 speeds do eventually go out... although not as often as the 5 speed. for example, MurkyriversTL's tranny went out on him, and he has a 99 with 180+k miles.

i think you have quite a while before your tranny goes south... but that also depends on your driving

thanks man I like the car, maybe even do some moding but when i get some money, I just started a new job 2 weeks ago and I am broke.
Well I havent been driving it aggresivly, or anything like that, I dont think my RPM went over 5000 once in the last month, I am not the kind of guy who like to rip his car for no reason.More of a "enjoy the ride" kind of guy. Oh wow 180 000 miles? well then I still got some driving to do.
Another thing is that my TCS light keeps turning on and off by its self sometimes, I dont know it the system turns on and off or just the light so I am worried that I may have a problem thats gonna be expensive to fix. did that happen to anyone else? is that a common problem with TLs?

Can I have your dad?
TCS is traction control, if it does this when you are accelerating, turning, or stopping over bumps then it's probably normal (at least my '06 blinks the light under those conditions). If it does it under conditions when the tires are not anywhere close to the limits of traction, then there could be an issue. It could be as simple as a loose connection to one of the wheel sensors, or something more serious.
Smart guys - does the TCS system set codes anywhere?

well the thing is it doesnt blink, it turns on and it stayes on, and I cant turn it off. then I stop turn off the car, and sometimes its back on again sometimes it isnt. i dont know what it could be, i guess Acura will know but I bet they will ask for a shit load of money to fix it.

damn... there goes that idea. haha

uhm.. as far as the whole TCS issue, i have no idea. My VSA light only stays on when i turn it off, to let me know its disabled.

you might want to get it looked at... you might avoid a bigger problem if you get it looked at sooner

After I had an induction service my TCS light was on, go get the code cleared and it should fix it. And post some pics up of the car, and welcome!
