NewB got ripped off!

After reading messages here, I feel I got ripped off at the dealership. I paid 667$ for my 30K service. It included some recommended services which the service guy sold me after telling me that it was a major service and were needed on my 2001 TL. I wish I had read this forum before going to the dealership.

Now one question: They found a small bubble(an inch long and around 1/3 cm high) on the rear tire. Apart from that tires look good.(I made a 1000 miles trip against his reco. this weekend) He said I should replace tires immd. and offered 172$ for each one with free aligning. I found Dunlop A2 for 94$ online. What do you guys recommend? Is A2 a good tire? How do people usually do it? Dunlop says they will send it to nearest authorised service station who will replace the tires for me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please help this newB in not getting ripped off again. Thanks.

I realised that there is no point crying over the past...so please don't remind me of how I have wasted 400-500$, instead help me in the next step. I will really appreciate if you could answer any of my questions. Thanks.

dealers suck....$500 in pretty much useless labor (check-ups) and $50 in parts and actual work.

Yikes! I just received a "mailing" from my dealership that says their 30K service is $289.00 (+ Tax). I thought that was high until I read your post.

I've heard/read some really good thigns about the Sumitomo HTR for only $87 each at www.tirerack.com. There listed there as a Ultra High Performance-All Season tire and specs look a LOT better than the stock Michelin crud that the factory put on.

I found Dunlop A2 for 94$ online.
Tirerack has them for $74. I have them, I like them a lot.

They will ship right to your local tire shop.. you just go in and pay to have them mounted. Great deal.

And BTW: dealer's always say "it's a major service" even when it's really minor. Once I bought a distributor cap for my Accord and the dealer said "are you sure you want to put it in yourself? It's a major job!" Yeah. Snap snap done.

This is what my dealer (Rick Case) charges. It is a tad more than I want to pay for service, but they are the lowest price Acura service that I know of in South FL.

7500/22500/37500/52500 - $84.99

15,000 - $179.99

30/60/90K - $289.99

45/75/90 - $279.99

A timing belt change is a little less than $300. Honda wants $450.00.
Go figure.
