Never let anyone drive your TL

Whenever someone asked me to drive my car, I always let them do it. Yesterday, I let my friend drive. He was trying to avoid a speed bump and went too far to the right, he scratched up the whole friggin rim and put a really ugly looking black scrape on it, in addition to tearing off a good portion of the outer 'ring'. It looks NASTY! Ofcourse, the words 'wow I am so sorry, I will pay to have it fixed', aren't in his vocabulary.

Anyone have any similar experiences with letting other people drive? Also, what can I do about this rim? Anyone know of any wheel repair shops in NYC or Jersey? Or I could get a rim from acura. Please give me suggestions.

I don't care how much it costs but I sure as hell aint driving around like that, even if I am the only one who noticies the damage (stock tl-s rims).

Sorry to hear that. If that person is a friend, they'll pay for their mistake. If not, I'd still make 'em pay.

I let my wife drive the car once and later found out that she hit a curb and scratched the ground effects kit on the passenger side. At least she made an attempt to hide it from me by trying to use touch-up paint to cover it up.

sorry to hear that man... but why would you let a friend like that to get behind your ride if you know that he's not the type of person who'd pay for any damages thtt he caused?
I don't think you should fix the rim unless you are not planning to mod it and keep it stock. If I were you, I'd save a abit more 2 get a new set. (I'm assuming the damaged rim is stock).

Thats not cool. If he is willing to ask you to drive it he should be willing to pay for the damage. Look at it this way it only cost you the price of the repair to find out he isn't worth having as a friend. Tell him you are downgrading him to aquaintance status.

My first car was an '88 Saab 9000, really nice vehicle. I let my girlfriends brother, who was also my friend at the time, drive it to pick up his girlfriend. Only reason I let him drive it was because me and the lady would have the house to ourselves....hmmmmm...

About an hour later her aunt comes running in the house saying there's been an accident. He totaled my damn car. Insurance covered everything but the $500 deductible which his parents promised to pay, but didn't. I filed a claim in small claims court to recover my deductible.*(I don't care who you are, you mess up my sh*$ and don't pay, I'll get your ass). That scared them enough to make them pay.

I'm still with her today. Good relationship with the parents, "ACQUAINTANCE" status with her brother.

WOW totaled and you are still with her. She really loves you then not to let that between youand her brother affect your relationship. See in the end it doesn't matter. He should pay otherwise he isn't a good friend. Show him this thread so he has a chance to see that EVERYONE LOL thinks he should pay.:yack:

See, the thing is, I am 17 years old and most of my friends aren't as lucky as me (financially). The kid who scratched up my wheel does not have any money to pay for it. So before you guys start saying 'he should of tought of that before he got behind the wheel', please keep in mind that I let my FRIEND drive, not some stranger.

But all of that doesn't matter because no matter who pays for it, it needs to be fixed so does anyone know any shops in NYC or NJ that can do it? I don't feel like paying 200 dollars for a new rim especially when i was considering getting new wheels anyway (sometime down the line). Im eying the Giovana Corsica. Damn this is a real tough situation for me. If i wanted a scratched up car, I would of gotten somethin used. DAMNNNNNN.

By the way, I noticed that a good way to releave frustration is to go into your garage and throw your little brother's bicycle around a little bit

Better the little bicycle than the little brother!!!

Here...

There is a store in Brooklyn on Neptune Avenue between the canal and the overhead train. I think the name is Barkley's something. Try them out, but I would go see if the dealer can do anything about it (which I doubt they can).

Dude before I let anyone drive my car I say "Let me see the 30K in your hands and then you can drive it". My friends end up walking away, and it always work. I even make them wipe their feet before they can even step into the car.

I don't let even my wife, the most trustworthy driver on the planet, drive my car. Of course, I'm not perfect, as I noted recently...look at my sig.

I think you're very nice to let your boys drive your car, cool, but I think after this they'll understand why you look like you want to kill if they ask you to drive yours again...

Same here.

BTW, make your friend pay in installments. If you don't make him pay then he will probably think that he can get away with anything with you. If he can't pay financially, take something valuable of his as collateral and when he finish paying off your car, you can give it back to him.

when i first had my car, 2 weeks, i let my friend drive my car because we were both so high coming back from this club. she was parking in the garage and was too close to the wall and a second later she scratched the right side of my car, mainly the back right door. she was crying for hrs and i was laughing my ass off the whole time cuz i was so wired. she even woke up early to try to clean some of the paint off the car and she did clean up most of it.

If he does not pay (and has the money to pay) take his hand, open your door, then put is hand between your door, then SLAM the door on his hand.

Not only will you feel better, he'll NEVER scratch another rim again..

I think you just learned a valuable lesson not to let others drive your car, even friends. I try not letting anyone drive my car. No one will love your car the way you do!

2 years ago my mom got a new SUV and I though it was the baddest vehicle in the world.. Finals are comin up and me and couple of friends go studdin at another friends house and one say can I drvie your moms car i was like sure why not. I was not in the car wit him i was in the car behind wit someone else. Ther was a pretty sharp turn with loose gravel and my moms suv is goin 50 mph around it he loses control i see the thing jump off the ground into a ditch... he paid for towing and siad sorry couple of times and that about it. Since that day no one has drivin her SUV or my TL. still that damn suburban has a nasty dent on the front fender.:yack:

I only let my father drive my car if he needs the navi. There was one point when i first got the car and he would use it and go places where he knew how to get to, but insisted he needed the Navi. Now with the addition of wheels, intake, and the on order HKS, he is too scared to hurt it.

Try a junkyard, ebay, or a place that sell used rims/hubcaps. A little polish and elbow grease will make it look new(er) and it'll have you atleast 50% off the cost of buying a new one from acura

Writing from Japan.

My insurance covers only when I myself drive my Saber.
This is a great excuse to my friends who want to drive my car

My son is 16 and he will get a driving license after 2 years (in This country driving a car is allowed for 18 or up ).
He will like to drive my car.
At the time my insurance premium will go up 4 times more than the one I pay now.....
But still the insurance will cover only when my family drive my car.
