I am planning on getting a TL-s in a couple of weeks, but I am having a hard time deciding if i should get the navi or not. Is it really worth it? What does everyone here think? Thanx in advance.

get it!
Even if you don't know the area well, how many times have you been sitting in traffic and wished you knew the fastest way to get around it. I use it all the time.
the only reason I wouldn't get it would be if I lived out in the sticks where the map doesn't get as detailed

i was in your position one week ago... i was going to get no navi b/c i felt like a cheap person...
seriously, tell them to do a navi demo.. like how to use it and crap when u test drive your TL... u must have navi.. i dont know how i survived w/o it.
GET NAVI... you'll thank all of us later

I wasn't planning on getting the NAVI, but when I went shopping for my car, it wasn't available in the color I wanted without the NAVI, so I ended up getting it (Got it for roughly ~$1500 more than the price of the car without the NAVI so I thought it was worth it). After having it for less than 1 week I immediately can appreciate its uses. I've been able to find a lot of new routes to places I knew how to get to already, plus I've been able to find quite a few new places.
I'm also taking a business trip soon to an office in PA and I've already gotten directions for it from the NAVI
NAVI is definitely worthwhile!!!

I'm on the don't get it side.
It's simply not worth $2,000.
$2,000 will buy a lot of other nice goodies for your ride like custom wheels, a kick ass stereo upgrade, and more.
It's $2,000.
Keep in mind that it's $2,000.
$2,000 :-)
$2,000 would buy a nice 50" HDTV.

Or...................you could by a KIA and with the money you save, build a real home theater!.....
GET THE NAVI!!! Really, there are two types of TL owners: 1) Those with NAVI and 2) Those who don't have NAVI, and rationalize that it is not worth the money and that's why they don't have it.

Look for dents!!
When i went to pick up my 03 TL-S about 2 months ago, it did not have the navi, then after looking it over i saw 2 dents in it and my dad raised enough hell that they gave me the same car with the navi for free!! So my advice to you is LOOK THE CAR OVER VERY CAREFULLY, you never know you might just find a gift from the dealer
Well, its all in how you want to spend your money :-)
I agree that if you do a lot of driving to places you don't know for business or pleasure, it may be worthwhile. I know the state like the back of my hand, so I don't need it, and will drop the $2,000 into a nice set of wheels and mods instead.
I also guarantee that within the next 2-3 years, you'll see the Nav system as either a ~$500 option, or even standard equipment.
It's simply not worth $2,000 - you can buy a nice high-end Garmin GPS unit that does the exact same thing for around $400 - and even take it with you hiking.

As for me, I'm pretty good with directions and thought that it was just going to be a toy. I use it much more than I thought I would, and would definitely buy another one.
It's all a matter of opinion.

And my dealer knocked the price down to $1700 so that helped some.
I spent all last year working with advanced GPS hardware in the local delivery industry, believe me, you can get the exact same functionality and more for $400.
Better still, you can even download the data to a PC and keep a historical record of where you've been, miles driven, time on the road, average speed, and more. Can't do that with a car-fixed Nav unit :-)
Again, I'm not knocking the Acura Nav system - it's THE best one offered by any car make, it's just not worth $2,000 - Acura is probably making $1,500 on every one unit it includes in a car.

Just giving you sh!t.

As for those $400 units, from what I've seen, they don't seem to have has much map detail as the DVD based systems do. I may be wrong, it's just my opinion.
As for historical data, I'm not so sure. I once accessed the "secret" diagnostic screens, in the system. Lot's of cool stuff including showing you which satellites you are currently in communication with, along with a screen that I think had historical trip data. Not sure, but I'll have to check it out again.

Exactly my feelings. I'm a techno-geek and knew I just *had* to have the navi. My wife, who is the Anti-Geek, said she'd buy me a Rand McNally atlas for $4.00 and save the $1996 for something else. But now that she's driven the car and used the navi, she wants a navi when she gets her next car. I never had one before either, and I wouldn't be without one in the future if I could help it.

She also thought that about the steering wheel mounted stereo controls. When I told her how cool they were she thought I was being a geek. Now she asks me if it can be retrofitted in her car!
Her 'Cruiser as does the '02+ TLs have something that my '01 doesn't. One touch express up for the windows and one touch express for the moonroof.
Such a little thing, but way cool.

Seriously though, if you chose Navi, test drive the car extensively. Read my thread in this topic and make sure you don't get a lemon.

If you occasionally get stuck in heavy traffic the detour function is one of the best reasons to get the Navi. If you often need to dial 411 on your cell to get a number then the Navi will likely save you from having to use your air time for that. Just a couple of lesser known reasons where the Navi comes in very handy.
