Unhappy is that my transmission??!?!?

k, for all those who have had their transimissions go out on you. i just passed the 4k mark last week. but i think im feeling things.. that well.. i haven't before. when im in 4th gear.. around 45mph. if i let off the guess.. feels like the car jerks a little. also, when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd. i feel another jerk.. but this is more like... something pulls the car forward more. (i dont remember it happening everytime.. )

1. is this something i should be worried about.. or this something im being paranoid about?

2. are there anythings you noticed .. i mean.. before it was painfully obvious.

I wouldn't worry about it, I think we all get a funny feeling because of all the problems with our trannies. Remember it's hard for a computer to determine what is the best out of 5 gears for a given situation.

Yeah...I never experienced it....cause i don't have the car yet...but I *think* you should start worrying when you tranny starts holding the gears too long.

Not to alarm you, but when my 2nd tranny went, that's what it was doing before it finally went out all together. Between 2nd and 3rd, it felt like a sloppy shift with a manual tranny -- a little extra revving with a little hesitation, er something like that.

I'd take it to the shop and have them do a code check to see if anything comes up. Even if no warning lights are coming on, codes may be popping up in the computer indicating that something is malfunctioning.

Good luck.

The first signs that I was having problems was the car would stay in a gear, like during a mild acceleration off of a stop light, it would stay in 3rd gear and not shift! I would have to slow down, then speed up. I thought I was imagining it. It was downhill from there!

It's sort of what RedLined is telling you.

Once you get the bizarre light display, you are cooked. One good thing, you can still drive the car, but go straight to the dealer.....

Uh, quick question, any of u guys with the tranny problem experience this:

Cruising at 35mph or so, all of the sudden, the revs just go a little buggy (higher than normal), with engine hesitation, then normal for about a second, and then it happens again, and then everything goes back to normal?

BTW, my car only has 260 miles on it. Is this a normal break-in routine or should i be worrried its actually breaking???

Transmissions

Has anyone done a poll to see how many owners of Type-Ses are having Trans problems? does it only affect the type-s?

I hvae almost 21k on my 2002 and so far I really haven't seemed to experience what you guys are saying. Now that I've said that watch what happens when I get in the car tomorrow!

I'm just trying to find out what percentage of 2002s have the problem...

Uh oh, I may be experiencing some of the symptoms described here. When my tranny is cold, the shifts between 2-3 and 3-4 seems to be a little sloppy. When the car warms up, everything seems to be fine.

The shifts in SS mode is always crisp and accurate though.

I wonder if there's a bug in Acura's driver-adaptive shift program. Maybe the computer can adapt itself "into a corner" where it violates the physical transmission's limitations.

daverman.. that doesn't sound like anything you need to worry about. if your SS shifts are going ok... then you should be fine. and the cold engine.. thats common. thats when using SS makes that all go away.

hey.. can some of you try this.. just want to see if im being paranoid. in the morning.. when you are starting from a cold start.. start the car...open your door... and rest your arm on the door. just to feel the engine. is it really smoooth? or there an occassional engine bump?

Oh, it's bumpy all right. I don't have to open the door, I can feel the engine "loping" through the steering wheel.

Ditto here. I've posted before that the idle on this car after a cold start is much "rougher" than my previous Japanese imports. However, "rougher" is a relative term. I still consider it a relatively smooth idle. Rough is my old '87 Camaro V8. It's just that these cars keep getting so refined that even the littlest things stand out.
