My tranny died??? VSA, check engine light, ! and D5 blinking

Mannn. I think I finally found the problem to my sluggishness. I was driving into a parking structure and noticed my CEL came on. I then parked then the VSA light and ! light came on. Shut off the engine. Restarted it, now the D5 light starts to blink, put it in D5, and it doesnt move forward like normal. Gas it and it doesnt go. Put it tiptronic and still doesn't go. Pull it all the way down to D1and what do you know, it goes.

Had my car towed and now only the CEL is on. NO D5 blinking, VSA and ! didnt light up. My tranny is gone huh?

Man! It just hit 100,007 miles. Haha. I was about to celebrate, then I got nice lights. No warranty. I had extended warrenty through my bank, but expired at 95K miles. Ohh man.

I just had my 3rd tranny rebuilt.

Acura replaced first under warrenty, second under extended warrenty and 3rd im SOL.... Justr had it rebuilt and souped up for $3200 with 3/46 warrenty.
Acura wanted like $4600 - 10% = $4100...

Acura is not goodwilling anything right now.. They build these ugly ass cars that r not selling and not making money so there not helping no one anymore where a year or 2 ago they would pay for 50% way after the miles or even pay for the trans and customer pays $1000 for install!

I have to say, wasn't that happy with the power of the 05 tl.. didn't pull that hard. My auto tl-s pulled harder when it was at it's prime.

What?! I disagree. I own both a 2G and an 3G. My 2G TL is NOTHING compared to my 3G TL 6MT. My girlfriend owns a G35C AT and my 6MT TL ate it last week (she drives it hard too).

that makes me wonder then. the car was an 05, 33k miles. car looked clean in and out, but....there was a major issue with how the engine looked. Looked like it was corroded and rust spots. ALL over the engine.. salesman said that the car came from the east coast

Well, was the car a AT or MT? If it's AT then to be honest a 2G TL-S is just as fast. MT is a different story (I thought you were driving MT, but rereading what you wrote maybe you weren't?)

it was a MT.. the car was at a Honda dealer.. so i'm thinking, if there's something wrong with the motor, then they'd know. But it just doesn't feel like it was up to par.. You're saying it should be night and day comparision from 05MT to 03 TL-S?

haha. i know!

well. i went to the dealer yday, and they offered $1500 for my car...WTF?? and said if the tranny wasn't gone, they'd offer $6000. So pretty much they are compensating for the dead tranny.

My local mechanic said a used tranny installed would be $1400.. I'm thinking i should fix it, and then trade it in... any input?

if its driving so bad the trans is obvious- then that would be a better deal towards a trade in-
then go to a different dealer for the new car~

What about the car trade in towards more fuel efficient car- $4500 for car that gets 10mpg better than yours- thats not to hard to find!
that would offset your time to deal with a trans you hope works after its been sitting around and moisture could have damaged internals

Or if you still like the TL and want to keep it around- 14 for a used unit- may as well try, at worst you still trade it in

the sales dept- what scum- quote full price reduction for trans when they get shop internal rate on part and labor- maybe 2000 for the whole job,,,sales dept pockets the profit on resale...look this car has a new trans!!

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t/specs_page_2

Granted, 5.6 for the MT was with an A-Spec package installed but horsepower is NOT changed and weight is only slightly different.

A 2G TL-S should hit 60 in around 6.5, not even close to the 5.6 C&D got with the 3G MT.
Now, I'm not going to say it's night and day (i.e. an M3 to an Accord), but in all honesty it should feel noticably much faster.

A 3G AT will feel almost exactly the same as a 2G TL-S. However, the 6 speed definitely speeds things up.

Sounds like the car you drove had something wrong.

My car's fixed!!!! Only replaced some solenoids in the tranny. Now the car picks up better, no more sluggishness. Ahhhh. Do you guys think this is just a quick fix until it really goes?

I just took the car to my family mechanic. He didn't mention clogged screens, just that the solenoids failed and he replaced three i believe.

Can u ask him what soliniods he replaced, there is quite a few of them on the tranny. Its my freakin luck that it had to be my whole tranny not just the soleniods like I thought at first!?

Why do I always get it in the A#$

I'll have to find out and let you know. But the car runs like butter now. Picks up right away. Power's there. I love it. But I'll be car shopping for a 3g though.. trade in! Might as well do it now, while the tranny works and I get better value for my trade in.

Because 99.9% of the time its a very quick short fix. They get clogged from all the wear from the clutch packs. Once the wear gets to the clogging point the damage is usually already done.

Do a search for solenoids. There are a few threads on it and which ones those have replaced. (usually the 99s)

So the soliniods are just a QUICK fix?
If the clutch packs are falling apart then unclogging the screens is just a quick fix, no?
