Unhappy my A/C just died..

Hey guys,

Yesterday I was driving on the freeway so I closed my windows and turned on the AC... after a few minutes I noticed it was getting really hot and stuffy in the car but it was set to the usual 72 degrees. I then realized that there is absolutely no air blowing out of the vents so I turned the temperature down to 60 and pressed AC again so it it says "AC ON." Still nothing. Tried the heater instead... 90 degrees, nope.

The air vents for circulating inside air or letting outisde air in works fine, but that's about it.

When I got home I turned off the car and clicked it to the second notch (right before ignition) to turn on the AC that way... the big fan in front spins for about 4 seconds and that shuts down. The screen still says AC is ON and all that stuff but absolutely no air blows out.

Checked the fuses, they appear to be not burned, although I'll check again tomorrow.

Probably not something I can fix on the spot, but just wanna run it through you guys for any inputs, thanks.

Doesn't sound like the AC condenser died, since you said it won't blow air in hot, either.

I'm thinking probably the HVAC module went out. If it is, that'll be an expensive repair without an extended warranty.

Wow, sorry man. That sucks. Ugh, I hate how repairs, maintence get in the way of mods.

The control unit goes for just over 200 bucks. Figure about 2-3 hours of labor time, and you will probably be looking at about 400-500 bucks, depending on where you go.

But that's if it's the control unit that's dead. That was just my guess.

It could also be the heater blower (or more commonly known as the heater core) unit. That one runs for about 250 bucks, give or take. It's the actual unit that blows air into the vents.

Since there's absolutely no air coming out of the vents, it could be a dead blower, or the control module is just messed up. I've seen both happen, so it can go either way.

Little update on the situation... finally got time to bring the car in to a shop. The guy said something about the a/c control unit (exact name not too sure) + something else which will run me about $350 in parts & then ~$60 in labor. He also said the part will come in tomorrow morning and it should be done by afternoon-ish. I will post more details once all's done.

I miss my car even though it's only for one night!!

Happened to me. Blower had black soot on it. They cleaned it off and everything was fine.

I hear ya...I am in Connecticut right now to see the family for the holidays. Damn is it cold. It's not quite this bad down in VA but definitely not A/C weather.

Can I get an update on whether or not the Climate control module being swapped fixed the issue?

Check out this link for a few possible options that may fix your problem. This is mainly if the blower doesn't run.
