Moonroof & Side Window deflector concerns

Howdy again people!

I'm considering ordering a wind deflector for my '02 NGM TL, and also rain/wind guards for the side windows. I haven't made up my mind as of yet, but a lot of my friends are telling me not to go this route. At the moment my windows aren't tinted, but I do plan to get 'em done just as soon as I deal with some other things first. I've searched through dozens of threads on the matter and have found some products online, but I thought I'd get some opinions on just how useful these things are, what potential drawbacks they have, and if they actually look good on our cars.

For the moonroof deflector, this is what I'm looking at:

http://www.autocarparts.com/part/397/82/

For the window deflectors, this is what I'm looking at:

http://www.autocarparts.com/part/1425/1855/

Now this might sound stupid, but one of the major concerns I'm having when thinking about these things is wheather or not bugs will decide to chill under these things. I'm highly arachnaphobic and I do NOT like to see spiders anywhere near me, especially when driving. If anyone does have these products installed, do you find that insects like to make homes in them?

Thanks for any help!

i personally would never buy those for any car i will ever own, they look like poo. i dunno, to me they just take the clean lines away from cars... but if you like them go for it, after all it is your car.

See here's the thing. In my driving around Toronto, I have seen other NGM cars with both of these items installed and tinted windows, and they don't look all that bad. I really think I could get used to the look, but I'm still at the phase where I'm trying to sell myself on the idea of going for 'em. That's why I want to make sure there're no significant disadvantages to going with them, and see if they really do improve things any.

For example, say I'm pulling up to a drive-thru window and it's raining. Now what usually happens is the inside of the car gets all wet... would this still happen if I got the rain deflectors? Or would it happen to a lesser degree? It's little things like that I'm hoping to learn from others to see if this is something I would deem to be practical.

I have a sunroof wind deflector & I like the looks of it. Never notice any bugs taking up residence. Makes it harder to clean the portion of the roof under it.

See the next thing I'm worrying about is, I know that my particular car colour isn't the most common out there, and things will work with other colours that just won't work with mine. I've never had a chance to closely inspect another NGM with these mods (just quick drive-bys), which is why I'm hoping to gather more data on that aspect as well.

Thanks!

yes your car will still most likely get wet on the inside with the window all the way down.. those wind deflectors are for when you crack your window open to let fresh air in, but hate all the wind noise..

I see... so the addition of the window deflectors does add a fair bit of noise when they're down? I am the type of person who frequently likes to take my windows down, so if the additional noise is very irritating, it might not be something for me...

If you're going to get window visors, get these

http://www.heeltoeauto.com/Honda-Acc...M-pr-4626.html

They're the only ones that look nice on the TL imo.

I'm an arachniphobe as well and this happened to me:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/my-worst-nightmare-644333/

I think the sunroof visor will only make things better for spiders lol... and I don't like the look of it bulging out on the top.

You wouldn't happen to know of any pics with those on the TL, would you? I mean, I'm sure they're nice, but they're also a fair bit more expensive than the ones I linked to above... so just wanna see what I'd be paying more for, heh.

OH HELLS NO!

I'd have to purge my car with fire after that... but I do have my own spider tale. Now I try to keep my windows and moonroof closed at all times when I'm not in the car specifically to keep insects out. Within the first month of getting the car I suppose I forgot a couple of times and left the windows cracked, and a spider managed to get in. I was driving to work one morning and what do I see on the dash just beyond the steering wheel? A bigarse spider (approx. 2cm in leg span) carrying around a huge egg sac on its underside! I freaked out from that and did do a bit of swerving, but luckily I didn't hit anything. I soon got to work and began looking for it, but it had crawled into a crevice between the windshield and the frame around it. I was scared shitless because I knew at anytime that bastard could lay eggs and my car would be infested. So I did the only thing I could do... I enlisted the help of a girl at work and on our break we went to the car for some spider hunting Fortunately it was very hot at the time and since the car was sealed it was extremely hot inside. As soon as we opened up the doors the lil' bastard came racing out for some cool air and I had the chick squish it for me (yes... I am a mans man! )

I do notice the occasional strand of a web here and there, but no actual spider in the car since then. If the wind/rain guards and the moonroof deflector are going to be cozy lil' homes for these freaks, then I don't think I could go with 'em... I'd be too paranoid everytime I get into the car

I don't understand why you're getting all worked up about spiders, let alone their offspring! It's far more risky to drive swerving around in traffic-

Well... that's kinda the point, isn't it? As an arachnophobic person if I'm driving and suddenly there's a spider within inches of me inside the car, then I'm going to be freaked out and distracted, making me a danger to myself and others on the road. As of right now, I don't have any issues with spiders when driving with the moonroof opened and windows down, but if these deflectors offer them a nice, cozy place to set up shop, then that means they should be able to pop into the car whenever they want, even when I'm driving... which would be a very bad thing.

In winter, this would be no problem at all as I'm in Toronto and they'll all be dead anyways... in summer, it'd be hell as I'd constantly be checking those areas to make sure nothing's living or chilling in there.

Nah... I suppose it's probably going to cause more trouble than it's worth... plus if it does create significantly more noise (the window deflectors that is) then I suppose it's not something I should go with.

NO they dont add more noise. They are there to help reduce. They are primarily designed so that you can open your window a inch or so when its raining so that water doesnt get in. It will do nothing with the window all the way down. They are also designed to allow you to leave your window cracked on hot summer days to help vent the car without worrying about things getting in the car (like rain)

Totally agree with the statement above... I guess they serve a purpose but they are ugly as hell!

i got the weathertech ones, they make the tint look darker on my SSM... i love em in the rain especially if u have friends who smoke cigarrettes its nice to be able to crack the windows when u leave ur car, never had a problem with insects chillen inside of them, i dont like the look of the moonroof deflector at allll, but i like my windowvisors... and as far as the noise they create with the windows down ( i drive with em down allll the time) i didnt notice any difference at all after i installed em...

Just be aware that if you change your mind down the road, and want to remove them, the moonroof visor typically will chew up the paint underneath it. Sand, and grit that find their way in between the visor, and paint will act like sandpaper, and cause permanent damage.

The window visors typically leave adhesive thats a pain to remove as well.
In my opinion, I think they ruin the look of any car.

i have the weathertech side window deflectors, they slide in the window channel and look much cleaner than the ones that stick on.

to add to this thread i've seen two very different kinds of these rain gaurd/air deflectors. theres a low-profile sunroof one that looks alot better than the high oem one i have on my car. And there are ones that sticky over the chrome trim above your doors and ones that dont cover the chrome. but i dunno how the latter stays on. i do agree that the car looks cleaner without BUT wind noise is drastically reduced on your sunroof while driving. and while driving in the rain with the window cracked with out them, water always lands on the g*dd*amn MFin window switch!! just typing this gets my heart rate up!!

I have the JDM one and I personally like it. They don't add more wind noise and I like to be able to crack open the window during rain to get fresh air. Haven't notice any bug/spider reside on the inside yet You are a thousand times bigger than the spider so don't worry!

I never leave my windows open at night even in my garage. During the day when I park somewhere, I crack my windows, but I make sure there are no trees around me where they could come down. I had visors on my old Accord and the work great!

as far as the spider, it could of been much, much worse

Damn, I hate spiders. lol. But, comparing both the JDM and Weathertech, JDM looks much sweet and "bulkier". The sleek design for the rear is nice too.

LacViet, you have the most amazing NBP TL, I love your car. Do you park it with the keys in it at night by chance?
