To Mold or not to mold

Well my lip is kinda hangin from being dropped so low and bottoming out on some potholes and going over speed bumps. I took it back to the shop and asked them to use stronger glue, which they said they don't have. I then told him I've always had lips and bumpers on other cars and never had an issue, but anyways he brought up molding it to the bumper. What do you think? I'm gonna take it back in a few days to get re aligned but maybe later on get it molded..Maybe

I say mold it together if you can afford it. It will look much cleaner and of course your lip will be more secure. The only thing is that it still won't solve your problem with bottoming out, so you might want to raise the car up just a tad

so wait... the front lip is hanging because of weak glue or because you've scrapped it against the road, etc?

if you mold it, the moment you so much as nick the ground... you'll see a crack.

i wouldnt mold that lip because the sides are on top of the bumper and therefore making it way too complicated to get the countours right without it looing wavy....i have the factory 99-01 lip molded on my car, and it was hell to do...you can see it in this video:

Basically he said because I'm slammed and scraped that it caused the lip to shift and the glue to come apart. I told him I have had lips and bumpers on most of my cars and never had one fall apart. He looked at the top part of the lip and suggested we mold it. I voted no myself but I doubt it will crack since its urethane. I voted no because I may get sick of it and want to go OEM down the road.

Niko yours looks good, maybe at the meet I'll get a better idea.

I think he was talking about the Bondo/fiberglass mix they use to mold it cracking. It doesn't take stress/flex too well.

I have owned my tl for almost 2 years and have yet to mod it in any way. I have also never been within 20 feet of a tl with a lip kit , but could you possible find a way to screw it to the bumper? I mean, that might solve your shifting problem and still would be less of a headache than a cracked front lip! just my opinion...

The lip has a total of six screws into it. 2 behind each side and 2 underneath, the problem is the crappy glue.

Damn Plat.. WTF you doing down there?!?!?!

Seriously, this is one small price you have to pay in order to be SITTIN ON GUTZ!!!

No Molding -Lip gets torn off again for you to replace again

Mold - Lip gets torn off AND paint/bodywork from bumper is cracked/F'd up.

So basicly either way you will need to re-apply the lip, just depends on how cost effective the process is.

And Niko, just roll with us down there!!!!! I am driving down and back the same day!

Besides... Arent you a self-proclaimed NY STANKEES fan? Plat needs your support! lol

I just got my rear and have no clue how they are going to atatch it. I'd say let them re glue it since it seems if you mold you might be up shit creek later on if you mold. Sounds like molding is the way to go if and only if you want it there to stay and you're not worried about more potholes etc.

If you look at the bottom of your bumper you will see holes there for the lip ( atleast the OEM lip ) not 100% sure about the WW. Regardless they should put screws on each side and in the middle as well as glue it.

The lip is sitting right behind me unpainted and I was just checking for any room for screws. There is however already some industrial strength tape around the bumper, So I think it will be taped and glues when all is said and done. Thanks though.

What kind of glue do you guys use? My OEM lip isn't flush on the back and I'm thinking about glueing it or getting more double stick tape.
