Exclamation Mods and Track Time!

Got my Headers and Exhaust on! Other than that, my car is stock performance wise, not even a special air filter. Did several runs. The first 3, I only gained 1 tenth from my last best time, and was disappointed.

However, the more back-to-back runs I did on the track, the better! (I'm thinking keeping the air circulated and engine cooler is the main reason for this) and I sifted with the gate outside of SS to squeeze every last once of RPM in 1st and 2nd and I dropped it 3 more tenths! With a little more practice and using the gate instead of SS, I was then able to pull off consistence 14.41 times! (All runs are with VSA off, on did not help on my benchmark runs)

I think the sucky stock tires are holding me back, also the track at 54 Deg. wasn’t as cool as when I did my pre-mod runs, so a 4 tenths from that time may not be bad at all!! Maybe I should loose the spare and a few items from the trunk next time!

After the intake, there is not much more in mods for us yet, right? I don’t want to add a cold air for the fear of more noise and I’m already pushing the limits now with the exhaust with the wife, so I wonder if the Comptech panel filter will help at all, even 3 hondredths of a seconds will get me down to 14.3 : )

Any other silent mods worth it? Like a pulley set? I think I’m addicted now but can’t have more noise, other wise I have to leave the daily driver alone (Wife's Orders) and go back to moding the other car which isn’t such a sleeper like this one!!

14.41, that's a great time. What RPM did you shift to another gear to get your fastest time?

Theory meets reality...

I did a simulation using a HP calculator program, and your times are consistent with what one would predict from the additional power of your mods. About 3/10's.

Very good times - the extra 1/10 is probably attributable to your improving technique at launch and shifting.

I highly doubt that the CAI is as loud as the exhaust. chances are, your wife won't even hear the CAI as it is pretty quiet (usually).

Well I tried and tried for the best time without mods also, and then again after, so its 4 tenths! What else is there other than the CAI That adds 1-3 tenths? I had a CAI on a Maxima, and at high RPM it was loud! The exhaust is not loud at all really, just deeper, more bass. Our cars are prettly raspy and load at WOT stock anyhow, this kind of mellows it out.

Furthermore, no one here has a NOS kit or other brand? On maxima.org (my former car) several did, is there a reason for that? Our Granny Tranny? Shouldn't our cars handle a 50 shot with ease? Guess I'm itching for 14 flat, high 13

For shifting, a Line before 7K RPM in 1st and 2nd with the above mods gained an extra tenth not once, but 3 times. I tried it stock, and it was about the same as the SS, I think with the headers, it helped because they make all there power up high.

Also, Road Rage what HP calulator is this? I'd like to check that out.

Also, keep in mind comptech headers seem to do more for this car than your average headers do for most other cars. They surely don't add 30HP to my Corvette for example.

Not a calculator you can buy, a program I wrote. There are a number of lumped sum formulae that allow you to input a few variables (weight, ET. etc) and it calculates the missing element. I do not have one handy - I am sure others have posted on this. Search on the Forum, or on a web search engine and I am sure you will find one. If I get a few minutes, I'll find the source code for my program. Since HP is a measure of work, and one knows the distance covered in the 1/4 mile, if you know you did 14.41 to move a 3600 pound vehicle, you can extrapolate its power.

By gate do you mean manually shifting from 1 to 2. (Not in SS)?

Get the:

Cold Air Intake
Underdrive Pulleys
Comptech Quiet Tips

The exhaust is louder and more annoying than the CAI, imo.
CAI only growls when the manifold opens up, so its silent
in daily driving and cruising. Unlike the exhaust.

Oh and definately try removing your intake resonator FIRST.
It should breathe a little better and will give you an idea
how loud your cai would be. I removed mine, put it back on
and then removed it again. It's definately not worth having on.

By Gate, I do mean not in SS. I now think SS is a waste for 1/4 mile drag race with headers as you only shift it once, unless you never want to miss anything and run consistant for bracket racing or something. and not really looking for the best time you can get.

Again stock, SS and the gate, where about the same, with headers, the extra few RPM did help by shifting on the first red line right before 7K RPM.

What is the the pulley worth, at least 2 tenths? Lost almost 3 on my other car with an underdrive set.

No response on the reason no one uses NOS on this car?
