Lowering my car

Hey i want to lower my car 2 inches in the front and 1.75. i'm wondering what i need to do so. it's strictly for look and maybe a little for performance. i know there are coilovers, springs, shocks and camber adjust. i don't think i need the adjust coilovers but i'm wondering what else i need besides springs to make it a comfy lowered ride.

If you just want to lower your car, I would recommend some new springs by either H&R or Comptech. I lowered my car with Comptech springs and the appearance is dramatically improved, especially if you are planning to get new rims, it's a must. I must say too, the ride has stayed more than acceptably comfortable.

I didn't get new shocks at the same time (because there were no aftermarket shocks at the time) and although I am happy with the stock feel, I may upgrade soon.

If you look at the "for sale/wanted" board, you'll see there are a few sets of comptech and I believe a set of H&Rs for sale, for quite a reasonable price. I would highly recommend using one of those brands as they not only lower your car to the height that you are looking for but also are parts made specifically for the TL.

I bought the Eibach Sportline Springs from Tim and it lowered my car really good just like the specs (front 2.6 inches, rear 2.3inches). It looks pretty damn good, the handling is better, but the ride is questionable. I haven't had the chance to ride in a TL-S that has HR springs.

I just bought a set of used wheels and tires from "trippin555" who had his vehicle lowered with comptech springs. All 4 tires were worn perfectly evenly after almost 10,000 miles. Drop it with the springs, get an alignment, and drive with no worries...

I have Comptech springs and I have had no abnormal wear from the 10,000+ miles I've driven the car. You must get an alignment though, at the time you get it done, and a few weeks after to account for the settling that takes place.

I read the alignment printout after I got my springs&shocks put in and my car aligned. The front wheels are fine, but the rear wheels are just barely within spec for the amount of camber. Camber, is one of those things that an alignment can't adjust, you need a camber kit to do it. This means that there will not be much noticeable uneven tire wear for me, but there will be some at the rear tires. It's been like 8000 miles for me since then, and I can't visible detect uneven tire wear, but from the data, I know it's there.

More of a reason to rotate your tires regularly.

Hmm.. I think you mean H&R springs right? It costs more because of the brand. It seems Comptech is more well know in performance parts so they cost more. As far as I know Comptechs were manufactured by the H&Rs. Also, there is a difference in drop depending on what kind of H&R you are buying.

Where did you get that info from? I've had several people tell me that Comptechs were exactly the same as Eibach springs and just had a different name. Then why do Comptechs offer a different drop than H&R and Eibach? There's just a whole lot of rumor floating around out there.

Sure, Comptech might contract out their spring manufacture, but as far as I know, there's no where else to get the same high-performing Comptech spring other than under the Comptech name.

The only springs that I know of that drops what you are looking for (2 inches front, 1.75 inches rear) is the H&R race springs. The race springs are 2.2 inch front, 1.75 inch rear. Comptech springs for sure does not drop that low. Not sure about Eibach though. I got the H&R race springs, and there is no wheel gap in the rear, and in the front you can just barely slide your fingers between the tire and the fender well. I recommend the H&R race springs, but be aware that it will be more bumpy than stock.

I heard that Comptech outsources their springs (ie some other company makes them for Comptech), and this may well be the reason why Comptech springs are more expensive. However, you can't go wrong with either Comptech, Eibach or H&R. They are all good springs. Having said that, why pay more for springs when you don't have too? Go with H&R and save your $100 for other mods.

Get your springs from Tim (owner of this site). Good customer service and fast delivery. I doubt you will find a cheaper price online unless you go to a mod shop (and even then it's iffy).
