lowering a car question.

Can you fail inspection with lowering your ride? I live in NJ, I see plenty of dropped cars but just wondering about that. Or even get tickets? I dont care but just asking...

I don't have facts... but I could've sworn I heard there were minimum clearance regulations for vehicles? In other words, if you've got a modest drop, you probably don't have to worry... but if you're slammed???

FWIW, I'm dropped about 2 to 2.5", and I live in NJ too... inspection isn't till '09 though I'm hoping to be in another whip well before then...

Your headlight bulb must be minimum 21 inches above the road surface- thats Fed standard
States cant regulate stuff like that- so they go with the main idea- car was made one way and you have changed it, so now it doesnt meet the same FED safety standards- bumper test etc- anything can make your car illegal if they want-
ie: caught racing? all this stuff is illegal!!!!
A 1 or 2 inch drop, no one will care- hide the rims inside the fenders and black out the windows.....not such a good idea

You can always go and ask a casual question of the inspector too

i know here your wheels have to be able to have the same turning area as before. Ie. if the tire rubs, or touches anything its illegal.

I think im going with the Tein set up, what do you think is an average cost to install them. and after the install what should I do. I mean, will I need a alignment etc. Im still on stocks for now.

On the average, it'll probably run ~$200. I've heard of installs much lower (~$125 at F1 Motoring in Sayreville) and much higher ($400 for A-Spec installs at a dealership). Anytime you change the ride height of the whip, you should probably get an alignment done.
