LED tail lights and turn signals

I'm looking at these:
http://www.midnightmoose.com/1156led.htm

Has anyone ever put these in? I really like LED lights, but I'd kind of like to know how they look. You think they would be bright enough?

i have LEDs in the turn signals. looks great in the daytime /w my cleared headlights, very uniform. but u can barely see them when blinking in daytime. at night too, very light blinking, unless ur looking at them head on. just hoping it wont get me into any trouble. also, u have to splice a resistor into the wires, to get rid of the hyperblinking.

Hmmm...I certainly don't want them to be dim. There's several cars now -- the S class, the Infiniti FX, the Cadillac DeVille -- that have LEDs in their taillights, and they're VERY bright. Does anyone know what kind of LEDs those are, and if we can buy them aftermarket?

The reason LEDs are dim during the daylight is because they create hotspots. LED incadecent bulb replacements will NEVER be good as incadecent bulbs, our tails are not designed to distribute the focus LED light, even with wide angle LED they produce a dim light in the day. Second, you would need to get some resistors because the low load of the LED would make your car think the bulb is going bad, hence you get hyperblinking.

The new cars with LEDs in their tails (04 TL has it too I believe) are bright because they were designed that way. If you look close up, the LED are uniform and distributed evenly in the taillight, also they have A LOT of LEDs in them. The stupid LED replacements bulbs have what..........10-20 LEDs at most. Stick with the incadecent bulbs or get those new cars. Noone makes Aftermarket tails with LEDs in for our cars.

The new 04 TL, the G35 and M35 have the LEDs too. For what I noticed, the LEDs need to be in an "arrangement" that is in strips or sets together in order to be seen, otherwise they would be dim if by themselves.

It's sometimes called as a power resistor. Typical 5-10 ohms and 5-10 watts. The value of the resistor will change the blinking rate because of the increase power load. I did this on my bros CBR when he put leds in his rear pegs. Just hook up the resistor in parallel to each bulb.

I have tried that type of led bulb in my tail lights - it does no provide enough radial illumination. It just looks like you have 4 red dots for tails instead of the whole tail light assembly bieng lit. Bulbs light up the whole area. I did keep them in my signals, and they look and work great - I love the instant on - off effect that they give. If you do plan to still try the leds in you tails they have better prices here: www.superbrightleds.com

Would the red LEDs come out nice on the white signal lens or would they look "pink"?

Vickman - Led's are a true red, so I would think it would be red. They do sell amber as well, but you prob already know that.

njtls - I have been running Led's in my signals for about 3 months with no ill effects from the hyperblinking. I chose not to install a resistor, I like the effect that hyperblinking gives - it's just different. With Leds you also get the instant on/off, so it looks even nicer with the fast blinking. For those who may think this is "ricerish" you will be surprised.

njtls,
Yes, I do have leds all around. I replaced my front bulbs for the exact reason you mentioned. I would go to www.superbrightleds.com and go with the 19 led 1157 wide angle, they run $6.99 a piece. I have the 12 led 1157's and they don't illiminate enough, I plan to get the 19 led soon. Replacing the drivers side bulb is a pain in the arse, unless you have a CAI. It can be done with the factory intake, but it would be much easier if you removed the bumper - trust me. Good Luck!

njtls - forgot to answer the second part of the question. No. they do not blink any faster than they already do with the leds installed in the back.
