the led interior kit, cheaper LEDS

well i wanted to buy myself the leds to do the interior. half my lights r workin, so why buy stock bulbs when i can just invest into the leds. anyone know other than ledautomotive.com for leds? ive searched some threads of peeps doin their own custom interior wit the shifter gate also. i wanted to do that all at once, dash+the shift place. i know how to soilder. (SP) and it seems very very easy and i wanna try it. can someone
1. show me a site for the leds? i can get the whole dash+ odometer leds, for 60USD shipped to canada, if anyone can show me the leds that they used, plz post url

2. DIY on how to do the shift plate, im guessing its fairly straight forward, but i dunno what type of bulb base im dealin with. plz "inspire" me a little folks, thanks.

this is a pretty good guide. as for the bulbs under the shifter, u'd probably have to treat them the same way. guide also shows you which LEDs to use...obtaining them is a diff story (try radioshack or something -- its where i find most of my stuff -- orr the EE lab upstairs )

I just bought an interior set from Brian at tec-toyz.com. You can email him at Brian@Tec-Toyz.com, he is a very cool guy. His LED kits are really nice, and he ships fast!

Good luck.

www.oznium.com has decent LEDs. Otherwise I get my LEDs off of ebay from Hong Kong sellers cuz they're cheap. Also for the resistors, just get them from outpost.com/Fry's if you have one. They sell strips of 100+ LEDs for a few bucks.

http://ledautomotive.com/ they sell kits for our car. the only thing is the one for the dash doesn't light up like it does stock. the needle doesn't light all the way up.

you can see the redline and everything though? because in my friends srt4 when we did his LED's his redline was not visible anymore and some areas of the gagues were stronger that others..is ours ganna be like that too or is the light ganna be evenly spread..?

personally if i were gonna do the gauges i would rather get indiglo gauges i think. leds are not like bulbs they creat a beam of light almost. so the light will never be dispersed all over the dash evenly.

it looks even in the pic but idk if in person it does.

it might look ok. but id like to see the needles better. i wish that the new tl gauges could be replicated for our cars.

That is my car. Most all the photos on Nate's site (LED automotive) are from me.
Its hard to take a good photo in the near dark. The needles show more than they appear to in the photo, especially the ones for the Temp and Fuel gauges, but due to where the LEDs mount, the LEDs wont glow mega-red. As for an even spread, I added an LED up by the "80" MPH to get it uniform. And I can tell you that its pretty darn uniform.

This is the original photo before Nate scaled down the resolution and size.
The uniform color is pretty evident although as I said, the needles didnt show as well in the shot.

The LEDs are the cheap part. I did the entire car, from the power window switches, to heat seat switches, dash and all for under $175. Factor in a few extra LEDs than you think you will need for experimenting, damage while soldering, etc. I added quite a few LEDs in places there werent bulbs to assure a good spread of light. Remember than LEDs dont cast as wide a spread of light as a bulb.

i did the turn signals in white. Word of advice though. They will be annoyingly bright (at least to me) so you will want to fashion a frosted clear plastic diffuser to put over the turn signal opening. It wont change the color of the LED, but it will soften the light just a bit.

I tried the LEDs for the interior lights but they were just too spotty for me. I couldnt get into it so i put the bulbs back in the overhead lights.
