Intermittent start issue
Ive read about a hundred of these on here so far but none of them have posted a resolution (bot abnormal).
My son bought an 02 TL-S. When he purchased it the owner said it beeded a fuel pump because it would start if fuel was put in the intake (not true everytime). I tested the fuel pump by pulling the feed line at the manifold and turning the key on, and it is fine. Next I checked fuses and all are good. Now when it starts itll flash the green key a couple times and go away... BUTTTT after you shut it down, it flashes the green key again and then wont fire after, just spin over. I tested the immobilizer by putting an extra ecu with the immobilzer chip removed and same issue except no key light.
Im thinking its the key itself, am I wrong? I also saw there is a recall on the ignition on these.
Anyone have some resolutions that have fixed this issue so I can have it back on the road for him?

It's just a suggestion, when it gets hot and the old solder micro-cracks, on these things, they can cause starting problems.
Yes under the driverside dash, you'll see it buried up high, looks like the picture below attached to that bracket on the parts depiction.
Hopefully you'll find joy. Good Luck.

TysDad, Is this just a problem getting started or does it die when it is running. Is the problem the same on level ground and a good slope? Rereading your post reminds me of a problem I had and it started with being hard to start. Here is a post on it, might not apply to your situation but you never know. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-p...-ideas-991328/

Ended up being the ignition itself. I looked at it and noticed there were gouges inside and the flap was missing. I stuck the key in and turned it to the ON position and no key light. Wiggled it a bit and got the light and it started. Then after turning it off the light didnt come back. So I put the key back in and wiggled to no avail. Turned it off and back on and no light again. So while it was still in the ON position, I smacked the underside of the column and low and behold, the lights on. Its bow starting with no issues but he is ordering a new ignition and key so we can replace it.

Exactly. I did all the testing needed to rule out fuel and spark. Finally started looking more into what the car was doing when it would start and wouldnt start. The green key light was always in question and after seeing all the posts about it, I started paying attention to that.
Im not a parts pitcher, I was a diesel tech for 7 yrs and have been worling on and building cars for 30 yrs now but even I know the internet definitely can come in handy on these new cars.
