intermittent HID headlight with Morimoto kit

Hi guys, I installed a Morimoto kit on my headlights about a year and a half ago (rather I had it installed), and now the passenger light keeps going out, now and then. Sometimes it is on at about 25% brightness. The problem comes and goes. I was just outside my car for a minute noticed it was out and on the drive home it came back on.

I was wondering if you guys had any ideas. Thanks, you guy are such a big help all the time.

Recheck all of your wiring connections and grounds. Perhaps ya have a bad bulb, try swapping it with the opposite side.

Probably a bad connection. Or the ballast is going bad. I would bet its the connection somewhere.

You gotta make sure that all wire splices are soldered and covered with heat-shrink in an automotive environment. Check all connections and splices. You can also swap the left ballast (or bulb) with the right and see if the problem persists. If so, it's a connection issue. Otherwise get a warranty replacement on the faulty component.

Solved!! I am not a car repair guy at all. After the light went out for good, I had it looked at and a plug was simply disconnected from (I think) the ballast. I was ready to have an entirely new system installed with warranty from a local shop for $300. But after 5 minutes they told me the plug simply came off and showed me where it was. They were super honest, and charged me nothing. I thank them!!

It's hard to find an honest shop these days.

But, sometimes it's the simple things that can cause problems to appear more serious than they actually are. Some car repairs are not all that difficult if ya take the time and effort to learn how things work.

It's always good to know the basics of the car ya operate, even if ya need to have a shop do the work for ya. Otherwise, ya may get ripped by some unscrupulous mechanic. Check in with us again if ya need some advice !!!

I have this same problem with my CL. I tried different bulbs and ballasts however... and the passenger side flutters and turns somewhat pink. Do you think I'm dealing with the same problem? I have stock ballasts installed still.. however I'm im about to purchase new Moris for my lows and fogs.

No, you dont have the same problem....
your bulbs are done. replace the bulbs.

However, the 2nd gen TL's ballast are not well built, and sometimes water can get into them.
if the bulbs are able to turn on, but are turning pink, its the bulbs.

But I've tried to replace the bulbs and the ballasts and the problem still occurs. However I was just testing with some crappy ebay kits I had laying around.

What have you tried?
its very hard to diagnose something on the internet, when we cant physically see it.
please, explain the process you used to trouble shoot.

You really must hate me haha. I noticed the passenger side low beam started to flicker, and was even pinkish, it would then turn off after flickering for a bit. I tried to replace the bulb, however (with any bulb), it turns on with the white blueish color and then fades to pink. However again, it didn't always flutter then shut off, only did this sometimes. So I tried to swap bulbs, same problem, then wired up a new bulb to a new ballast, but then the light wouldn't turn on at all. Tried doing this with some other ebay ballasts and bulbs I had laying around and it would not turn on. So I gave up and hooked all of the stock stuff back up and I am here right now with the same problem.

You said you tried replacing the bulbs and ballasts with new ones, but then just said the new bulbs and ballasts didn't work, so how are you sure the new bulb or ballast wouldn't have solved the problem, if it didn't even turn on? If it didn't turn on, my guess is it was incorrectly hooked up.

I don't mean to come across as an asshole, I am just trying to help; but it seems you are contradicting yourself

That is true.. with my luck the "new" ballasts and bulbs I tried are junk. As soon as it starts warming up I'll get out there and look to see if something came unplugged. Unless do you think it could be some sort of blown fuse? Or nah? And no you're cool I just ask a lot of questions.

If you've got an old PC, you could make an indoor, portable ballast power supply!

If your current headlights still come on, then I wouldn't think you blew a fuse. If they are still receiving power at the headlights, it isn't a fuse. Try getting some quality ballasts/bulbs and you'll be much more satisfied.
