Instrument Cluster LED mod v.4.0 complete DIY coming soon.

As the title says, I finally completed my buddies car with the final revisions to my cluster mod. Now it includes a voltage regulator for better reliability. I've also rearranged the superflux leds for better dispersement of light. Wiring has been changed too.

Ok, I know you really don't care what I did to improve my mod, you just want a DIY. Well its coming, but if you aren't electronically inclined, better find a buddy who is. And you better have lots of time on your hands, its not a quick mod for sure, if you want it done right the first time.

Yes I know its red, thats what he wanted

In case you were wondering about daytime

Sneak peak for the DIY, Think you can do it? And some people I refuse to name (starts with and M and ends with z) wonder why I charge the way I charge to do this for someone

Yes even the bulb for the lower gauge indicator is an LED now

Voltage regulator with heatsink installed on the back of cluster

As for the DIY, still looking at July when I have vacation and I can sit down and actually write something. I took many pics that I have to sort through as well. Some of them didnt come out well, my cam sucks!!!

can we lock this thread so dumb people don't go running their mouths again and piss him off enough to not do the diy for the rest of us patient, respectful, and gracious members.

BTW looks increddible, can't wait for july!

Great work, makes it looks like the gauges from the 3G TL.

I know on the CL side a couple of people screwed up with their L.E.D modifications and this https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183510 resulted. Would your DIY method minimize the chance of this happening?

There's always some kind of risk of any modifications, its something you need to ask yourself if you are able to do it. So far I haven't destroyed any clusters I have modified. As for the CL post, I have no idea what he did, but I makes me wonder how much force he did to install those bulbs. I had those long time ago, they work fine for a bit, but since they are rated for 12volts, they'll start to blink in about 6 months.

Murdaz, it may look easy, but it is tedious and long to do if you want to do it right. Plus who did all the work to figure it out in the first place? Yeah easy my ass!!!

I absolutely love the way this looks. Looking forward to the DIY, I'm pretty good with electronics so as long as this isn't too hard to do, I'll be doing it!

Very nice work

Having done two full rewiring jobs on my VW's, I know how much time and effort goes into anything electrical to get it right. Anyone that thinks this is easy, especially without any type of Acura guide or manual to refer to, is mistaken.
I am looking forward to your DIY, I have a 2000 TL that I will be changing out the stereo and all dash LED's soon. I want to go blue and the pale blue that you get when installing bright white with the filters in place.

Thumbs up to the custom wiring

good job with the wiring and getting the light to disperse properly. I love how you have an external resistor board rather than messing with resistors near the LEDs.

I tried to read your first PM but it got screwed up. And I was ready for you on Tuesday (yesterday) so we will have to reschedule for sure but I'm not working around my birthday. I'm on vaca

Thats alright, whenever you send it, but it will take me a bit to fix it up for you. And I can't change it to red for you, it could damage your label if I try to clean it again.

OntarioTL i would live to discuss a way for me to possibly get my cluster to you so you can do the phenomenal job you seem to do, on mine!! I will def want to wait for you DIY to see if possibly i could have my dad help since he is good at that stuff...but a price range never hurts to know i might not want to even risk it...or not do as good as you and be disappointed

Ok, just working on reinstalling everything back on my computer. Then I can start working on my DIY.

Alright a list of things you need.

I recommend getting these parts from digikey.com

10- 120 Ohm 1/4 watt metal film resistor (always buy extra just in case)
10- 680 Ohm 1/4 watt metal film resistor
1- Sharp PQ12RD21 voltage regulator
1- HS119-ND heatsink for voltage regulator

Wire can come from Radio Shack (or The Source in Canada)

1- Role of 2 wire conductor 24 awg solid wire Catalog #: 278-857.

Its a little thicker than I would like it, but it is easier to wrap the wire around the led terminals. You could always get Cat 5 cable and use the wiring from that. I think its 30 awg solid wire. It should still work and be easier to mount on the cluster but I'm not sure if it would be good for dispersing heat from the superflux leds.

LED's come from ebay. I recommend searching leds from JELED electronic co. Yes they are from Hong Kong so it will take about 2 weeks to get.

50 - 5mm white LED 55,000 mcd (its the smallest amount you can order)
50 - Superflux white LED 25,000 mcd

That should help you get started, but taking your car apart wont do you any good since some of the parts will have to be ordered.

Good stuff! There are a few other things but those you might have already or its an easy pick up at a store. I should be done soon.

Now for those have you that have waited patiently, I have a bonus mod that I will include with the DIY shortly if you wish to try and attempt it. Can you guess what it is from this pic?
