IMRC System

Intake Manifold Runner Control system...what does it do? I know it is only available on the type-S, and it is controlled by a cable and spring-loaded valve, but how does it work? Is there a butterfly plate inside the intake manifold kind of like inside the throttle body? Is the plate or valve between the IM and the intake runners, or within the runners themselves? How would operation be different between idle and WOT?

BTW, mine is working fine...I'm just curious.

But TL-P have VTEC as well, so why only in the type-S? And I would think it has to be open all the time to some degree or else air couldn't flow through.

The manifold does allow air flow normally, obviously. The IMRC allows more air, at VTEC engagement.

the type-s needs the valve to allow more airflow. the type-s needs more air because it has aggressive cams.

Cool, thanks guys. Can you see it through the bottom of the IM when you take it off? I've haven't seen much mention of cleaning it during an EGR port cleaning, although there is always mention of the TB butterflies needing to be cleaned. I've actually read suggestions of rinsing the inside of the IM with water after using carb cleaner on the EGR port. Putting water in there with the IMRC valve doesn't seem very smart.

Mine seems to open just over 3,000 RPM. It's like flipping a switch. Wondering if something else is wrong.
