Does anyone know what the port on each lower intake manifold does? On each lower intake ( the part that mounts directly to the head)it has of course the 3 injectors. Between two of the injectors there is a hole about 3/8 inch diameter.
It had a hose connecting the hole to a connection on the coolant manifold on the end of the engine, then it looks like it feeds into the air intake before the throttle body assy. There is one on each lower manifold. I thought I remembered that it was only accessing the space between lower intake and the head, as if it would suck the air out of the space. Can I ignore that and plug the ports on the coolant passage ? My old ones melted and the parts stores can't get them. They don't know what they are.

sounds like the egr ports--thats the only thing routed back to the snorkel tube to TB

their intent is to recyle some partially unburnt fuel residue back thru the combustion process to reduce smog emissions (thats what cruds up the TB air plate)

plugging them would cause issues unless you disconnect the entire system
When the egr valve is open it allows that transfer of pressure to TB inlet
egr valve is open at all times-- except idle and full throttle

 

Ok I think I located the parts. The rail was melted along with the plastic joint sets that connect in those ports. Ill order them and reinstall instead of plugging the valve. thanks 01tl4tl.
