Im new, and thinking......
Greetings fellow Acura followers!!!
Im planning on getting an 2002 ACURA TL. Now the issue is....it has nearly 225,000 clicks on it.
Do you guys think this will cause me a major issue or should I look for something with a lower K?
Pics:
Also I herd the tranny in the TL, will give me a hard time - so keeping that in mind will this car give me bang for my buck?
Also generally speaking, how good is this car on fuel efficiency - that VTEC engine should help save us money right?
Thanks a million!

That car is mad clean in interior.
I say get it.
but.. I don't want that car to break down on you.
I have the exact but in Black.
Gas is pretty much ok.
I like it in Highway's because It's less gas
but on City .. It's just like a cookie monster lol.

91 or 93 octane gas ONLY,,mileage is pretty bad at 19-21 city mpg and 25-29mpg all hiway cruise
Its a clean car- been detailed from the looks of it
BUT the trans is always the question--good one day is dead the next
Ck the trans brake ps and coolant fluid colors to see the condition of the cars maitenance
Can you buy an extended warranty for the drivetrain in Canada?
When was the water pump and timing belt done? and the spark plugs 105kmiles or down to 60kmiles between changes in far cold parts of the great white north~
need a reliable cheap to operate car- go look at some Hondas!
I love my TL but its not a great first car or on a budget car, when it needs something it starts at 50 bucks and goes to 400

vtec makes POWER by allowing in more gas and altering the valve open duration
None of that is designed to increase gas mileage- sorry
Its a performance `Touring` car
vtec comes ON at 4700 rpm to redline

if this is the first car you ever bought- please see threads on buying or use the internet and search out tips on how to get the car ckd at a mechanics shop, how to contact acura and run the VIN to make sure recalls are completed-- and they know if the trans is replaced by them 1-888-9acura9 for canada--
dont jump on a car because its shiny and the salesmen says you look good in it~
Use CL and internet car sales places to search for other same year and kms cars in your area for pricing comparison
asking mostly USA members is a total guess on our part--hows 5 grand- 8 grand?

Well what a sharp turn of events, the price is back to $5,000 firm. Thing is I'm split between the 02 TL and the 01 EL. I do quite a bit of city driving thats why Im leaning towards the EL but the TL just has that sparkle.
Accroding to the dealer everyhthing was changed at 168 KM the belt the pump everything. Only thing hes not sure of is the tranny, he said to get Acura to check that.

if your main use is city driving,, forget the TL and get a honda!
getting that much weight moving drops mileage and wears out tires, brakes etc
if the owner cant give you info on maitenance history- run from the deal !!!!
why suddenly back to 5 firm? some other idiot willing to pay full price without getting it inspected?
and you think it was going down to 2? what logic gave you that amazing bargaining ability?
You should sell cars!
usa ziners note its a Kilometers car not miles

Probably needs some work if they are going to let it go for that much, my guess is either the tranny is on its last legs or 105k needs to be done again, or something else. With that many miles original shit tends to be falling apart ie most suspension parts

Is it offered thru that auto shop in the background of pic?
from an employee, or customer of theirs, or they sell used cars as side biz?
oh yeah, convert kms to miles and he is about 180 - shocks are not cheap, how are the rotors, calipers ready for a rebuild or replacement- all the fluids replace etc.
whats the radiator condition, output of alternator, battery condition,,even the wiper blades are a good tell of the cars maitenance
Thats why you take the VIN number of a car thats passed your initial inspection- then a call to the 800 people for warranty history and recall ck, next take it to a mechanic- 20 to 50 bucks in most places depending on how far they go into it,,if it looks promising they dig in and find everything it needs now or soon- so you can negotiate repairs off price.
If it looks poorly crash repaired underneath or other major issue, they find that right away-stop the inspection, and you pay less for the job
When I worked in a shop- it might take 3-5 cars before the buyer found one we approved of and were willing to do the work on --and keep seeing as a regular customer, so it better be a good car!
Later they would thank us for helping them wait,,250 dollars well spent and found a really good trouble free ride they will keep for years,,
other ones needed up to $5000 in repairs right away or really strange work was done on them etc
And those were BMWs!
If you have an open budget to bring up everything to spec and operate the car with the right maitenance...any car can be a score
BUT we are back to the `You need a city car`- the TL is simply not for that purpose- its a cruiser- get to 70 mph-110 km's where its barely running over 2000 rpm and ready cruise up to much higher speeds while maintaining decent mileage
walk away from the thought of this car, and seriously- there are a lot of nice hondas for that price range with many features and great mileage in city or freeway- has vtec for fun~

yea I would def pass on the TL man, realistically, from 5k to 1500-2000 was highly unlikely. I would go for the EL, the EL is way cheaper to repair. Because I can tell you with the transmission problems these cars has, it will die on you, its just a matter of time. Lets say you bought your car for 1500, you know it'll cost you more than that to fix the transmission if it dies. The EL is pretty much a civic with class, so if your tranny dies, no big deal, buy a used one for like 300 and have it put in. Go for EL, plus you wont find it on here cause its basically a civic. jump over to Honda-tech . com for that

I had forgotten how we look on stock wheels and suspension~
ready to go 4 wheel drivin in that thing!
glad you reconsidered your choice
get the `honda canada` phone number and run the VIN thru them same as we gave advice before--all same procedures for looking it over etc
Dealer can get the same warranty repairs info- ask service manager
If this is allowed in your area: look for private owner cars on the street or in parking lots on the weekend,,the `sell it yourself` method~
