update on possible transmission failure? egr?

hey guys,
well my other post was closed becuase i mentioned i was looking for a transmission but you guys went on to help me figure out if its really broken. Today i went to autozone and got the codes checked. Well the P0420 is still there as it was for the last 2.5 years =P. Though i am not sure who posted something about the egr and yes the code was there oddly. I am going to go ahead and attempt to clean it as I saw a tutorial on this site before. I will keep you guys up to date as soon as i get that done.

Cleaning the EGR does a lot, well at least it did for me.I have a 99 TL and Acura said the recall had been done, but as soon as I flipped my intake manifold over it was clear as day that Acura had lied...99 TL's intake manifolds are different from the 00-03. In the 99's a tube was suppose to be put in the EGR valve hole, but I didn't have one in mine once I took off the manifold...anyway the response from the engine is worth cleaning...GOOD LUCK!

the 99s recall on the single port egr was to slightly enlarge the 1 hole with an 8 mm drill bit and put a metal tube insert with smooth sides in the hole.- thinking less way for crud to grab on
It was a bandaid at best, not a fix at all

all gen2s need egr port cleaning via manifold removal every 75kmiles, or less for 99 with 1 port
later years have 6 and they still plug--blame E10 added gasline for poor combustion and extra byproduct loading
