Idea for helping with stolen headlights

Well guys and gals I was just on ebay looking around and was quite saddened by them allowing people to sell stollen lights on ebay, but it did spark an idea to aid in the reducing of stealing these items. Just like acura eches the vin in all the glass on the vechile they could etch it in the lens of the lights and the ballasts for the hid that way no one can sell them on places like ebay as they can be identified as stolen items.

Just a thought anyone know how hard this would be to do to our present cars?

it would work but most of them dont use the housing at all because all they want are the ballasts and bulbs.....even if you do it on the ballasts they can just etch them off. Also they won't fnid this out until they destroy your car getting them out.

What we need to do is have something on the active side to show that we know that THEY want to steal our lights

They usually use a screwdriver or crow bar and bend your front fenders out to break the housing (or sometimes unscrew them) and in the process of doing this usually the hood, both front fenders and the bumper are all damaged and need to be replaced. Here is a pic I have found on the sbn forum before it went down....dunno if is anyone on here:

Add a 45 cal under your pillow at night, when you hear your car scream for help, bring your friendly 45 to the window and start barking(Simple Solution).

Here is an idea. Install an alarm. Then have the alarm trigger a video camera mounted on the dash or digital camera. This will take pictures of the theif. .....but then again someone will see the camera and steal that too

I think that an alarm could help if it can be made to be really sensitive. But that too would suck because your alarm will always be going off and people just ignore alarms anyway.

Hopefully this trend of stealing lights wont increase. Maybe car manufactures will get smart and make the lights more tamper proof. How about making the light self distruct if it is removed unproperly. This adds way more to the cost of an already expensive part though.

Maybe someday the price will come down for these lights. Economies of scale. Hopefull it will be a mute point if every new car gets these.

My best advice. Park in well visible parking areas. Carry good insurance.
