How's your transmission

With all the talk about transmissions blowing out under 50K miles, I was wondering who's got the most mileage on their TL without transmission problems? How many miles are on cars which are still going strong?

Mine seem a bit noisy (makes clunking noises) and I don't know if it's normal but it drives fine. It makes this loud noise when shifting from park to reverse or to drive. I don't know if anyone else hears this noise or it's just me. But so far no problems...

I have 59,000 KM on my 99 TL and now problems. I got the transmission fluid changed at 40 KM just to be safe.

I just wish for better performance out of it.

I have a 2002 TLS. Check Engine light came on at 31600 miles. Dealer replaced two solenoids in transmission and the ECU. Car runs fine now and I have replaced ATF for good measure. I may want to do a complete flush of ATF before 50,000 miles.

Lots of 99's have trannie problems, just a higher percentage of the newer ones, but the trannie warranty was extended for all of the second generation cars.

i've got 40k+ on mine and except for rough shifting, clunking, and wierd behavior, mine is still good.

flushed the tranny at 30k, fixed some of the behavior, but i bet it's still messed up.

just waiting for it to fail.

4551 on my 03 TLS, way too early to tell anything, but I hear a strange vibrating noise when the car is in drive, and when I haven't stepped on the gas, or when I slightly hit the gas, but then it goes away .... maybe I should get it checked out ...

Oh yea, does red lining in your 3rd gear (SS ofcourse) kill the tranny ?

Trannys....geez..

It is horrible reading all the stories about tranny replacements. I can't believe that is happening to such quality automobiles. I have a snapper mower that has more miles on the tranny than most acuras and it is still running perfectly.
I talked to someone at acura recently and was led to believe there is still no fix for the tranny problems in second generation cars and there is only a 2 percent failure rate. Yea right. BS!!
Acura percieves that everybody on these forums are the enemy when actually the people here care enough to support the Acura company and drive these defective automobiles. THe forum members are acura's best friends.
Honda/Acura needs to do the right thing and either buy back defective cars or fix the transmissions. I think we have a big enough base of people to start a legal action and force Honda's hand to correct the problem. Everybody loses in this situation. Our cars plumment in value. everybody is pisse-d at acura and we all suffer.
Honda get off your a_s and do something. :rocketwho

I recent had the opportunity of spending a full day with senior personnel at the corporate HQ of a national transmission chain.

One interesting fact came out that you guys might want to know. If your tranny is starting to go, changing the fluid is like hammering the last nail in the coffin.

This has also been my experience on this car. I found that my tranny fluid was dark brown (almost black) when I checked it at 8k. I changed it (actually flushed it), and the tranny failed at just over 9k.

It's good to know for when you get up around..... say 90k???
