Question How long does good tinting last??

Got a 25% smokey tint applied about a month ago. It is already detatching at the rolldown window edges. Where it is coming off, it is showing a bit of a bluish/purple color.

I have cleaned the windows with eyeglass cleaner which I got a Lenscrafters. It is supposed to be good for even UV coated glass.
My vendor says I must have cleaned it improperly.

I sure hate to spend another $ 263 to retint this thing.

My TL has been tinted for 14 months and I have no problems at all.

Tint should last for a MINIMUM of 5 years if applied and cleaned properly. The instructions I was given state to clean the windows with a soapy water solution. Honestly, I don't have time to do that so I just use Windex to clean em. I've done that with my last 3 cars and I've never had a problem.

Not $263 is insane for a tint job. My 30% tint ran me around $150 plus tax and the WHOLE rear window, over the dotted area and all.

If it's peeling at the top, maybe they didn't trim enough away. There should be a thin strip of window that isn't tinted at the top. If done correctly, this strip should not be visible with the window closed. Tinting all the way to the top will cause the tint to start peeling off.

You are only supposed to use water to clean it. You shouldn't use ANYTHING else to clean it with. that solution may have done the damage...

Most tint manufacturers sell a lubricated window cleaner that keeps the tint from drying out. I use it about once a month and had tint for six years...

There are specific solutions that are safe to use on tinting. Plexus and Clear Vision comes to mind. I use clear vision to clean the inside part of all my windows.

Right, there is a special window tint cleaner that you are supposed to use. Either that or water, that is what I use. Window tint should pretty much last years and years. I had my Nissan Truck tinted for almost 10 years and it was still in great shape.

Thanks guys for the helpful comments. I guess I just didn't clean it right. I'll take it back and have a reapplication. I really like the 25%. It's light enough to see into the car cabin, but dark enough to make you have to look closely to see in.

You should see some of the facial expressions on people as they try to look inside. Then they see you looking back at them and they jump back!!! HA, HA

Too early to tell on my current cars, as it has only been tinted for a few years, but I never used to clean my other tinted cars windows, aside from wiping with a chamoise(sp?) once in a while. Never had a problem with those cars with over 5+ years on them.

DAYUMMM thats expensive... I just paid $169 with tax to have my rear window done with limo and the sides with 20%
and they charged extra because of the curve of my back window (TBird)
It has a LIFETIME warranty against fading/peeling, etc.
they said just use mild soapy water or any cleaners WITHOUT ammonia

You shouldn't have to pay more for tint. Just tell them their tint is peeling and fading. Most places have a life-time warranty against peeling, cracking, bubbles, fading, ....

And $263 is way too much. I got mine for $150.
