Post Bushing lubrication ???

One year ago right after I installed Comptech springs I noticed some squeaking noise coming from front right side when driving over bumps at low speed. I was also able to get some (similar) squeaks by pushing up front right side of the parked car. So I brought it back to the dealer. After taking look he sad that springs and everything else are OK and he is going to lubricate bushing and all around to see if it helps. He did it and squeaks have gone. For 1 year ... Now I can hear it again. Is it possible to lubricate bushings just by spraying smth like WD-40 without disassambling anything? I really don't want to spend half of the day at the dealership if I could do the same thing myself. Also the service manager I used to work with isn't working there anymore ... Thanks.

Cool

Polyurethane bushings are very prone to squeaks unless properly lubrictaed when installed, with the special lube that comes with them, not WD-40. They may need to be removed and re-installed with the proper lube.

if youve got comtptech sways, the front bushings will never need to be greased. however, the back do. if you use wd-40 or some type of paste grease without taking off the bushing, it wont last long at all.

ive taken mine off, and used some high end grease, but it still wears out very quickly. im going to have to find another brand

im still waiting for my new bushings. they have a valve on them so whenever they need to be greased, i put the nozzle of a grease gun in it and pump it...job done!

its hard to put enough lubricant without taking the bushings off. they should be an easy job though, dont even need to jack up the car.

Thanks. I have stock sways/shocks, only Comptech springs. So, bushings are stock also. Does these squeaks really mean that bushing needs to be replaced or just properly lubricated?

BTW, is it safe to spray WD-40 around? I mean bushing has some rubber parts (I guess)?

I'll probably wait for 30,000 service and then ask dealer to check it. In a mean time I'd like to try to lubricate it from outside to see if it helps a little.

1)Should I use WD-40 spray or smth different?
I don't want my warranty been voided just because I used wrong libricant.

2)Where exactly I should spray it?

Thanks.

I've actually used white lithium grease as well as WD-40 (which ever one I can get my hands on first) when I had to lubricate my Suspension Techniques sways (these were on my previous car). The bars were already lubricated with the grease that came with them when they were new but after awhile, they do squeak a little. They also use polyurethane bushings. I simply spray all over the bushings and end-links and then wipe off the excess. Might not be the right way to do it but it only takes a couple of minutes and its good for many months.

Thanks!

eujinc, did you apply both lithium grease and WD-40 the same time OR did you try them separately with equal result?

Oh, just bought WD-40. Think I'll try it first.

Ed, this Wolfhead grease you mentioned, is it available as spray?

And where exactly should I spray? Right on top of bushing (I hope this is indeed what I'm thinking about). I'll check Helm manual when will be back home. Hope to find some pics there...

I noticed that squeaks are almost gone right after I wash my car and they are back after it dries, so I hope outside spray will help.

WD-40 evaporates, so it probably wont last very long its designed to loosen things up, lithium grease/ spray usually works much better as a long term lubricant..

Only one at a time. Grease is the better choice. I chose white lithium because I happen to have some and it's pretty easy to spray on. WD-40 is very temporary and you would have to put it on more often but it does take care of the squeak quickly.
