How to install Navi system?
I hava a non-Navi 2002 TL-S and may have the opportunity to procure a navi system from a fellow 2002 TL owner. We are in Hawaii, so the Navi doesn't work, but I would like to utilize the display to play DVD's on. Does anyone know what's involved in switching the systems? It is not necessary for any of the Navi functions to be active since we don't get coverage here in the islands anywayz.
It's pointless to get the OEM Navi system just so you can play DVD's since there are better systems out there that offer the capability of watching DVDs in your car. But if you do decide to play DVDs through the OEM Navi screen..you're gonna need a TV tuner (http://www.avelectronic.com/products.htm). After you purchase and install the TV tuner, you need to buy an a separate dvd player.
Here are instructions to the Navi > vid conversion (http://www.angelfire.com/super/types...onversion.html)

Thanks for the info. FYI...I'm just looking to use the screen as a moniter. I prefer the look of the factory moniter to most of the aftermarket moniters out there, since none of the current DVD players are double din size, only retractable. I also prefer the look of the Navi dash; more buttons. I know, that's kind of geeky, but I will be one of the only TL's in Hawaii with a Navi dash.

Won't work. The navi screen also controls the AC unit. So you'll have to hook everything up just as if you were using it for navi. Unless you have the wiring harnesses, it's not going to be easy.
Also, you'll have to buy the AC control panel that goes under the navi screen...it's different on non-navi dashes.

I'm not sure if I'm asking the right question. What I want to know is what's involved in swapping those dash components. It seems I will need to remove two dash sections and a secondary wiring harness from both vehicles (containing the navi system and a/c controls on the navi-car side and the a/c controls and a pop out tray on the non navi-car side) and swap them. I'm trying to see if there are any other suprises waiting for me.

Yup, the surprise is the wiring harness. It's all one piece, it's not just for the navi contols. It's the entire wiring harness for the front part of the car so disconnecting it from one car and attaching it on the other car is easier said then done.
