Question How to improve TL braking?

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to improve the braking on the 99-01 TL's? I know I'm just driving too fast, but still, the stopping power leaves a bit to be desired.

I know Tim carries some new rotors and such, but last I checked with him, he was still waiting for feedback from those who bough the parts from him. (Tim?)

I did not find any info in the archives, so I am looking to my fellow TL brethren for advice...anyone? Thanks in advance!

depends how much you want to spend.
you could just change the rotors or brake pads or you can change the entire brake.
changing the whole thing will be around 2k.

I'd start with new pads and rotors...One thing is for sure, cross drilled or slotted ones are way better than the stock stuff...Then i'd look for new calipers...

So has anyone upgraded their brakes successfully? If so, I'd love to hear the feedback.

Cant find a Honda/Acura Baer application on their website. Who has it available?

I'd rather not spend thousands to upgrade, but would love to improve braking at least somewhat.

Economical suggestions?

I was just looking at my old Car&Driver mag from FEB 2000 when they tested the TL they said better tires could improve braking. They say try Michelin XGT V4.

I'll probably be getting rims and tires anyways, so the added weight of 17's and the wider tires (235) will likely help, but still I wish they'd do something about the braking...

After Comptech put on my Axxis pads front and back, it was night and day difference. Just replace your pads first, then get better tires, bet you that's all you need.

Thanks guys, sounds like I'll start with pads and move to rotors and then tires and then I'll stop. Sorry, bad pun. Y'all know i'd just keep upgrading anyways =).

cross drilled or slotted brake rotors wont shorten braking distance significantly, it will however, prevent fading. if you don't slam your brakes alot, there is no need to get the rotors. metal pads and better tires will help much more. if you got extra cash, then get baer calipers.

I'm happy with the better braking simply from replacing the tires. Someone's going to have to prove to me that cross-drilled rotors and replacement pads are really that much better for a street car. You have to be driving really hard to get the benefits of a harder pad and cooler rotors. Otherwise, the reduced friction area and harsher feel of these high performance parts won't pay off, and can hurt good brake modulation/feel.

Just my opinion...

You want to come to CA and drive my TL? Really, the pads are awesome. There's no difference in pedal "feel" at all and it gives a much better bite to than stock pads.

I have been using Axxis Metal Master pads since 1992 when I had my old Integra. It is definitely worth it and will improve braking.

HEY, I posted this question months ago also!
I didn't believe tires could make that much difference, but they DO! I'm going 2 try the brake pads next, always been a good upgrade for almost ALL cars!

I hope you got as big a response as I did. Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I ordered Metal Masters from Tim last week and one set of drilled rotors for the fronts. I also got new tires (DunlopSP9000) since I got CL-S rims from one of the CL bros. Even just with tires (better grip, larger contact patch & lower profile) I can already feel a slight difference when i brake really hard (had to test the tires and rim, you know). I cant wait for the brake pads and rotors to try out.

The TL brakes sucks! My brother got into an accident 2 weeks ago, if the brakes were better it would have never have happened.
