How do i start moving a stick shift car?
Well i've tried getting a manual car 2 budge a lil. I usually kill it a couple times b4 i can get it going a lil. I notice that if i lift the clutch all the way after i shift the first gear b4 pressing on the gas it stalls. Any advice to help me getting it going smoothly? i can get it going once its moving but at stop signs and red lights its killer. THanx in advance.
it's all about footwork between the clutch and gas pedals! you gotta gas it when you have let the clutch up so far, or else it stalls. you can always gas earlier, before the clutch hits that sweet spot, but the roaring sound isn't so pleasant. it'll just take some time and practice before you are driving like a pro.
rev the engine to around 3000 RPM, hold the gas and let the cluth go slowly. after it engages, just let it go all the way.

Red hot, you don't want to make her look like a real rookie! You very simply pull off the clutch niiiiice and slooooow until you feel and see(on the tach) the revs dip a little bit, at that point, start giving gas simultaneously until you'r off the clutch completely.. A rule of manual driving: You're either on the clutch or off. no in-betweens.. if you want the clutch to last..

Awwww...c'mon guys we all know the correct way to drive a stick.
1. Engage clutch (depress completely to floor).
2. Place shifter to 1st gear position.
3. Press gas pedal down to the floor.
4. Count to 3, lean back, hold on and release the clutch fast!
Now that's how you drive a stick! LOL

Well, go to www.howstuffworks.com and read about manual transmission. That will help understand how they operate...
Now, it really depends the type of car that you are dealing with. With the S4 or M3 let's say. All you need to do is easily release the clutch, and the car will go even without any push on the gas. You stall the engine if there ain't enough power to push the car around. So, in a Civic lets' say, you have to give gas at the sweet spot, or in the mean time rev it to 1200-1500rpm and hold it there. Then don't dump but slowly release the clutch. That will help to find the sweetspot. And when you feel the car is moving, you can release the clutch all da way and give gas gentlly at the same time.

Well this is what I did some 21 years ago.
When I was 18yrs old & got my first brand new caw with 5 speed manual tranny.
I took the car to hills that did not have much traffic. I would start & stop the car going up the hill. When you can start off going up a hill with out any problems you can start off anywere.I had to retrain myself from automatics. I had learned to drive on them when I was 15. My uncle had told me the hill trick. I had only took one lesson on a stick before I got my car. I learned on my car. The car cut-off about 40 times in front of the dealership on the way home. I was almost crying from this I said I can't drive this car. The hills will help you alot to master the art of the clutch. I did not tear up the tranny at all because I had my 80 Honda Prelude 15yrs with the same clutch. My next 2 Accords also had manual gear boxes. The TL is my 1st automatic car that I have owned. The hills will do it for you. Once you can control the roll back of the car you have got it. Start off on a hill not to steep & start & stop on it. This will help you with the clutch & gas pedal.
