holding down the trip buttons

While experimenting with the maintenance light reset DIY, I noticed that holding both trip buttons with the key on for about 10 second reveals a beep, followed by some number sequences. Anyone know what this is for? Searches just keep yielding the light reset steps. Thanks guys.

If you are referring to 0,1,2 sequence, it is for adjusting ambient temperature display if you find that there is a difference between temperature displayed and actual temperature.

exactly!

key on and push both buttons sends it to self adjust indicated reading of exterior temp mode,
car needs to be driven 5 minutes + to get stable reading from system, then adjust to a known guage in shade,,many banks have temp signs for referance...
Systems real purpose is to advise when near freezing and ice may be on the road

key off- push and hold both- key ON = resets oil change reminder system

In order to reset the "Maintenance Required" light you HAVE to push the 2 buttons THEN while still holding them turn the key to run. IF you turn the key to run THEN push the 2 buttons in it will change the DEG for the outside temp

thats it-
the indicated outside temp is now 3 degrees above previous setting
Use a thermometer in the shade or a roadsign thermometer to reset guage

If you want to set that perfect for winter- in front of radiator is the sensor
remove from clip and place in cup of ice with water
set display to 32

again the real reason for the system is:
when outside air temp is within 5 degree F of 32/freezing, the possiblity of black ice- invisable ice on the road, and especially bridges--it highly likely!

As in= expect ice!!!! be prepared for defensive driving technique and recovery if you press on too fast in those conditions

no sweat, we all have reset it while learning the right way for oil minder
