Exclamation Hit & Run: Need your help guys!!!

Here's what happened,

I was in college yesterday, and was in my car waiting for someone in a driveway. This dude infront of me in a Red Pontiac sedan (Grand Am or Grand Prix) decides to back up his car to get out of his spot.

As he's getting close to me, I start honking my horn to signal him to stop, I was honking for like 5 seconds straight, and he kept on backing up. He finally fucking hit my front bumper at an angel, with the left side of his rear bumper.

The dude looked like he was about to drive away, so I pulled up next to him. We both got out the car, I took a look at my bumper and my paint was chipped in the spot that he hit me. There were also a few scuff marks along with some scratches.

He starts to apologize and say that it was his fault, so I tell him to pay up. We both agree not to get insurance involved in this minor accident, but then he tells me that he's not just gonna give me money. He wanted me to get an estimate from a body shop and bring it to him so he could pay.

He gave me his cellphone number, and I called him right there on the spot to verify, and it surely was his number. By the time I got back into my car to write down his liscense plate number, he left...

I went straight to the security office on campus to take a look at their security camera's. I spent a few hours looking over the videos, and with their system its kind of hard cause they have these motion activated camera's that move to moving objects.

Unfortunalty, the camera didn't get a picture of the accident, but I did get a few images of when he entered the parking lot.

I was hoping that you guys could help me make out the liscense plate # on his car from the pictures below:

Anybody got an photoshop skills in here? Even if you could get part of his liscense plate # then that would help.

I dont think you will get it cleared up enough to see. Id just look for his car on campus the next few days, and contact the police as a hit and run.

Call the police but don't mention about "We both agree not to get insurance involved in this minor accident", just tell them about "Hit & Run". They will find out his home address with the security pic. and his cell phone number you provided... and they can go from there. Sorry for what happen man.

ok seriously i can't stand people who liie, steal, and cheat.

find that bastard and press charges on him to the fullest extent of the law.

it might have just been a fender bender, but if you hit and run, it's a different story.

A simular thing happened to me about a few months ago. Came out to work and found out that the night before someone had bumped into my front bumper. I was pissed and walked the parking lot hopping to find a car that had some damage to their rear end, but found none.

The good news is that I have USAA for my car and insurance. After talking tothem, they told me that it would be counted as a hit and run. Now the fun part is with USAA, there claims are made, sent to a dealership for quote and the the quote is sent to USAA to issue a check to the dealership

The insurance person I spoke to told me that it was a hit and run AND WILL be covered under the unissured motorist coverage (that means you must have FULL COVERAGE) and the price of my deductable.......... $50

Overall, a new bumper painted to match my car for $50 is not bad at all

I have an appointment with them next week, I will let you know what happens

Jeff

thats the thing though....I dont have full coverage, only liability

I wouldn't be able to afford the car if I would have to get full coverage, but I'm gonna get the report done first thing tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Don't ever leave the scene of an accident without the insurance information of the other party. Even if you agree to settle it outside of insurance, tell him you want his insurance information anyway just as a precaution. He was clearly in the wrong this time so he was looking for a less expensive way out, which it appears he may have gotten.

Dude, please don't listen to that. This guy obviously had no intentions of making this right. If he did, he would have offered to meet you at the shop to get an estimate, right after the accident. If the shops were closed, the next day, he would've called you.

I know this sounds bad, and I'm sure you've already figured this out, but anytime you get into an accident, even if the police and insurance aren't involved, ALWAYS get the person's license plate number! Even if you don't get the person's insurance info., if you've got their license plate number, you can always do a follow up with the cops.

I would definitely contact the police, asap. However, to be honest, since people change their cell phones like they do their socks, I seriously doubt the cops will be able to do much at this point. Even still, if the report is made, and you do happen to see the guy at some point in the future, you could have something done about it then.

I'm sorry that shit happened to you man, and I hope your baby is okay. Good luck with gettin' that POS! Slap him with your pimp hand for me if you see him!

Keep us posted on this, I would personally like to see what happens with all of this.

All I can tell you from that pic is that the car is definately a Pontiac Grand Am, not a Grand Prix. If he avoids your calls, call the and give them the cell number so they can track him down. :twocents:

Well I went to the police station yesterday to make a report, and turns out that I had to go the the precinct thats associated with that area...

After about an hour of searching, I finally found the correct police station. I come in to make a report, and the guy gives me a form to fill out and tells me that I gotta mail it in, and from there it will be sent to my insurance company, and being that I was involved in an accident, they will most likely raise my rates, and since the guy in the pontiac actually gave me his cell #, then the cop cant actually declare it a hit and run.

Also, he said that they wont be able to look for him since there isn't enough info provided. I asked if they could use his cell # to track him down, they said they are cops and not private investigators...

So it looks like im pretty much screwed unless I find this guy on campus again, and then it wont be a pretty sight when he see's me coming...

that sucks to hear.. well If you have full coverage you are covered for 1 hit and run within about 3 years or so. So your rates shouldn't be affected. You probably don't want to mention that you got his phone number or that you weren't planning to use insurance

Sounds like that cop was being a dick. All they have to do is make one phone call and that's it. Your insurance rates shouldn't be affected since it wasn't you that caused the accident. He hit you, you're not at fault. So unless you're getting hit every other week, you shouldn't need to worry about insurance premium increases. If you see the guy again, take down his plate and VIN if possible. Call your insurance company and they'll go after him for the amount of your claim.
