Hey have some questions bout my TL anyone help?

Hey my father just gave me his 2000 TL, it's not a type S but I plan on makin it a show car, I'm wanting to doin an underwater beach scene for the paint and interior just wanting to know if there is any good places on the east coast to do so. Also wonderin if anyone has had transmission problems with there car for that year, usually when you start goin on the gas the transmission starts shakin and feels like it wants to skip gears and to get the car out of park you have to press down on the button thing to get it out. well if anyone could help me out hit me up i plan on doing a lot more to the car but takin it each step at a time.

Congrats on the new ride. It may be somewhat model specific, but it may be prudent to leave it here for a while to get some feedback on the paintwork. Afterwards it should go the TL forum where you'll learn the finer points of Honda automatic transmissions. In fact, let me know if you want it moved there immediately as you should definitely have this issue addressed before any customization.

Forget the whole underwater beach scene. Go VIP or JDM.

congratz on the new ride man

i suggest you go look at the photos section of this forum to getsome ideas on looks.

now for performance:

type s swap is not worth it cuz of all the work involved for very little return. the type s also has a few interior differences, is only available 02-03 years, and has stiffer suspension. if you wanna do any kind of swap, the only thing you should be looking at is a 6 speed manual transmission swap.

secondly, at that mileage, im sure the car isnt looking or feeling its best, unless cared for by a very meticulous driver. or mechanically inclined i guess. id say forget the show car idea. invest in a diff car for that. the tl is pretty limited on aftermarket parts compared to alot of other foreign cars. in fact, majority of exterior aftermarket parts such as kits look downright ugly.

anyway, welcome, use search, and good luck

there is a huge thread on transmission problems in the "problems and fixes" section, you should go through some of that for your transmission issues.

as for getting the car out of park, a common problem with these cars is the brake light switch, have someone stand behind you and hit the brakes, if the lights don't come on it's probably the switch, a 10 min fix.
