help. water in engine.

today i drove into alot of deep puddles to leave West Palm becasue of the hurricane. i was on my way to my moms house in Ft. Lauderdale (one hour drive). my car will not go into vtec and when it passes 46k rpm the check engine light flashes and the engine studders. i have a AEM cai and was wondering if acura will cover this problem? do i have to put back in my stock air box before i send it to acura? any suggestions will help thanks.

My suggestion is to dump out all the oil from the engine and put new oil in. Let it sit for a few days and see what happens. If that doesnt work, i would put the stock box on and go to the dealer. Let us know how it goes.

Yea, the dealer will fry your ass.... hyrdolocking due to a CAI is NOT good... and they will not cover it. I'm 99.9% sure of that, and the repair will be highly expensive if you have to pay for it yourself. Good luck man.... I've always been scared of that happening to me.

hey it happened to me last week. it was raining really hard and i tried accelerating and when vtec kicked in the check engine light came on and the engine acted weird.. when i got home i popped the hood and there was water all around my CAI. i turned off the car, turned it on again, then reved it in neutral.. and it came back to normal. ive had no signs of anything that could be fucked up ever since.. i guess i got lucky.

i was so afraid that my engine would be fucked up after that!

Also, if you have full coverage, i think insurance will cover it as flood damage.

my car runs fine now. after putting it in neutral and revving it about 20 times, i then drove it around the block and took it into vtec (no one was around). the car stuttered at first and about a minute or two, the car drove fine. thanks for everyones input.

Do you guys install bypass valve for your AEM? If not, I highly recommend you guys do.

the engine wasnt hydrolocked, it just had excessive moisture in it (which the bypass valve wouldnt have helped) the best thing to do in these types of situations is to pull the spark plugs out and crank the engine over a few times, check the air filter to see if wet. if soaked remove and let dry. then reassemble and drive.

All you guys who put the car in neutral, and revved the engine just dodged huge bullets. Thats the WORST thing you could do. If you did have water in the engine, you would have destrroyed your pistons, etc.

Pulling the plugs and trying to crank the engine will force the water out. Id do that, leave em out for a litle bit, or use a hair dryer to dry em out, and Id change the oil. Cranking the engine, or reving the engine would just compress the water, and destroy your engine.

this may sound dumb but to crank the engine is to turn the key in the ignition right?
