Help! Scraping on speed bumps at work, what to do?

Help! This morning I went into work and I went over one of the speed bumps we have there and I thought it sounded like I hit the bottom of my car on the speed bump. I wasn't sure because the music was playing, so I waited till the afternoon and I did it again on the way out! The speed bump is not your standard yellow speed bump, its actually a portable barrier which can move up to completely blockade the entrance or exit, and when its in its "down" position, it still stick up. The bump itself is made of metal too, so its probably more damaging to my car than a normal speed bump ... Is there anything I can do? There isn't a lot of clearance to angle into the speed bump, but I'm going to try that tomorrow... if I can't do it then I guess I'll just be forced to raise the car up :-( ... good thing I at least got adjustable coilovers!

By the way, since I have the EDFC, would making the shocks softer or harder make a difference? I was thinking it I made them softer that would help to prevent the rebound a little ... but my friend was thinking making it stiffer would be the right thing to do ... but then the car would be riding mostly on springs alone and I'm thinking it would be too bouncy?

What I hit was a metal piece that sticks out behind the front left wheel on the underbody of the car ... It doesn't look like its important, but I don't really wanna keep scraping it to find out!

Try it on an angle, thats the only thing left besides raising the car up; that and go real real slow, adn I mean creep over it. If you go slow enough, the rebound shoudln't be an issue, but I would say your friend has the right idea in that and say a stiffer setting would keep the car higher.

As the mechanics at my last job would say, "don't worry about that scrapping noise, it's just wearing in." But in reality, my car is scrapped up too, taking bumps slow helps though.

20 inch DUBs Blings Blings might be your answer LOL, make it 22"

yeah, go real slow (ride your brakes) especially when you feel the wheel start "rolling" down the ramp/ bump...

Better yet, talk to your management and see if they have a diff. entrance or maybe even move the bump. ( I think you said it's portable, right?)

NSXDreamer,

There's no other entrance or the possibility to move it because its there for security reasons. Its to prevent someone from getting into the complex illegally. I wish it could be done ... but since its for security I doubt they would move it just because my car scrapes it.

I'll try the super slow method today though and see what happens! There's not much room to angle it in either since the thing is designed to prevent cars from going through it, there are two big metal pieces on each side.

Actually u have to make them harder so they won't rebound. If u make them softer when ur car goes over the bump it will go straight back down. Making it harder will resist the downward motion.

I have Body Kit and Teins...i have it REALLY low. The only advice i can give you....take it SLOWER than SLOW. I don't even touch the gas...i'll let the car roll from idle over the bump, i would brake right before the bump and right after the bump.

I tried making them harder this afternoon as I was leaving and I ended up scraping even worse than I normally do! With the EDFC set to full dampening (softest setting), if I go SUPER slow over the thing I either hit very lightly or don't hit at all. I think it might be because when you're riding the shocks on the hardest setting the springs take over and you end up with more rebound than you would if the shocks take care of it? I don't know, but I definitely have less problems with the car on full dampening.

Ohhh...i think i know what our issue is. The settings for the teins ia 1 to 16, 1 being the softest and 16 being the hardest. For teh EDFC...it's the opposite i think, it counts backwards...so 1 is hardest and 16 is softest.

Fully dampening is hardest not softest. When you have it on Full hard...the shocks will not let the springs rebound/oscillate as much. If u have them softer, the springs will rebound and move more.
