Help and advice
Well im looking at a 1999 Acura TL. I was just wondering if you guys could give me any tips or advice on what to look for. What problems should i look for, what are some common problems. also what should have been done to it by this mileage. Dont know to much about acura/hondas. I study car more toward Mitsubishis and audi and bmw. any help/advice would be helpful.
heres is a link to one im looking at how much lower you think i can go on the price and what should have been done by this mileage. if anyone can kinda give me a check list for things i should look for when i go to see it.

hey i just bought a '99 after having crashed my '00 and to sum it up i would not recommend you buy the '99. while the body looks the same, there are a whole list of little things (and one major thing, the tranny) on the '99 that were changed for the '00. for example:
- only 4 gears (in 2000 the TL gets a 5th gear, which gives MUCH BETTER lower-end torque, improves gas mileage, lower revving and smoother ride)
- remote keyless entry jamming (jammed by some cellphone towers)
- burned CDs often do not play in the CD player
pay a bit more and buy a 2000 or later year.
yeah, ppl bitch about the tranny problems, so beware of this, as well. i see you're 16 years old...might not be so good to have to deal with this. you may want to steer clear of this car altogether

Unless you can see the shifter gate, the gauges, the sides of the front seats, or the engine - you cannot differentiate between a 99-01 TL. Not sure what you were thinking.
I heard back when the 99s first came out that the keyless entry jamming problem was a real bitch, too. I'd but the 00+ for improved fuel economy, improved acceleration, and side airbags.

Not trying to fight just state that many more people here have had way more problems with the 5-speed as opposed to the 4-speed
Again, if you want a fair comparison here of the reliability of the transmissions themselves (not the cars they are in), you must consider the vast number of failures of the 4AT in the 6G Accord and 1G CL.
