Heat wrapped headers?

Just ordered a set of headers (excited!) My question is has anyone heat wrapped theirs, especially the one closer to the radiator?? If so how did it go for you and do you think it's worth it? Should I save my money? A dei header heat wrap kit is a little over 100 bucks.

you can diy header wrap for a third of that price
BUT
you must install it perfect-overlapping each wrap x amount--any small area lacking enough coverage will cause a small hole top burn right thru the pipe
AND most brands are fire magnets if any drops of oil get on it (adding engine oil as example)

make sure a heat shield is installed over the pipes (like stock) to keep heat from soaking the intake manifold and TB

you can add an intake heat spacer for 105 bucks to the manifold and TB to add in the power
also a lightweight crank pulley will be your new best friend with this mod

I would `port size match` to the gasket- the intake and exhaust ports
at least clean the edges up

So is there any benefits to heat wrapping them or is it not really worth it?

None that you will notice. Also with many header manufacturers it will void the warranty with them.

The crank pulley. Its the one that drives your belts.

If you wrap the headers it will void the manufactures warranty, i know it will at least with the dc sport headers. Which ones did you go with?

Well you guys saved me again! I ordered the DC headers which means I won't be wrapping them. Glad I asked first. I can't wait for boxes to start coming! I also ordered XLR8 motor mounts and a Tsudo axleback to keep me happy until ATLP runs again for 2G or I can snag one from somewhere.

Is unorthodox the only brand of pulley? Would you suggest the underdrive pulley? Or stock size just the lighter weight? Gosh I can't wait for boxes to start coming!!!

Do you have a sound system? Also there are other companies that make them I just stuck with the unorthodox brand because that is the one I saw people have the longest on their cars. I think fsttyms1 had the Unorthodox racing pulley on his original tl- p motor for like 200,000 miles or so.

Also check the welds of the dc sport headers with a flash light like I did to make sure their are no problems. They have a replacement set on the way for me

fsttyms1 has been running BOMZ brand (found on ebay $40) lightweight crank pulley
since the engine swap to cl-s some 200,000 miles ago!
At the time he said `Why did I wait so long to do this!`

removing 8 of 10 pounds off the crankshaft end allows the rpm to get to vtec much faster,,where the power is

the stock size is for cars running more than 600 watts of stereo
the slower alt speed at idle of underdrive unit may not cover the needs of the amp at full load
the underdrive is fine for the rest of us
slightly less alt/ac and ps speed at idle isnt a concern

Oops... I notice a big difference when I installed mine months ago. Revs much easier and quicker and that stock one is heavy. Almost dropped it when the mechanic handed it to me did not expect it to be as heavy as it was.

No sound system just yet. I did look it up and see that you're limited to 600w w the under drive pulley. How much bigger are the gains from just the lightweight pulley and the under drive?

I don't beleive there is much difference in gain and if there is, it would not be noticeable. Besides the under driven accessories at idle of course
