heat shield questions

Is the exhaust heat shield that big ass piece of metal connected to the undercarriage near the middle of the car? I think it might be the cause of some of my rattling and want to remove it. Is this a bad idea?

Isn't that the heatshield for the Cat converter? You can always buy a really big SS hose clamp and just tighten it down.

Did that on my '92 Vigor

could the cat heat shield cause a rattling sounds at certain rpm's when the exhaust expands? Where are the other exhaust heatshields? and is it okay to take off the heatshields or not?

Umm, shake it around with your hand and see if it rattles...

Heat shields do come loose sometimes and can cause a rattle. So yeah, check it out and see if that's the problem.

Did you notice any other ones when you were under the car and found the one in the middle of the car?

Based on the Service Manual, there's one around the cat.

Can you remove it? Acura/Honda installs them for a reason.

I guess telling you that there's one around the cat and they're there for a reason was too complicated to understand.

hahahaha, noob, i have been on this site longer than you= you are the noob. I don't know everything about my car and figured the heat shield over the cat was the only one, it just sounded like there were others that i havne't noticed. I never gave a second thought to checking out heatshields.

Quit fighting 's there are 2 types of heat shields on the car, the 1's on the exhaust parts, and the 1's on the car. the ones on the car are more important than the one on the exhaust. if at all possible try to find ways to refasten them wether its clamps screws or straps

If I recall right, there are 3 heat shields. Front bank exhaust manifold heat shield, rear bank shield, and the catalytic converter shield.
