headlight bulb replacement 2000 tl?

Hello all, its been a while. I need some help. my wifes drivers side headlight bulb blew out. Can i do change this out myself. How much is a replacement bulb? I tried doing a search & was getting conflicting stories. I mean people talking about removing the dam bumper, just to change out a friggin bulb. is this right? Thanks in advance.

I sell philips D2R bulbs for our TL's and I suggest you to replace both sides of bulbs at the same time to even out the color of bulbs and lighting output. I can get you a pair of brand new philips d2r hid bulbs for $68 shipped. These same bulbs will cost you $150 each at the dealer. It is very easy to replace the bulbs. You don't have to remove your bumper to replace the bulb. E-mail

are you sure you dont have to take out the bumper?? when i was clearing out my housing, it was nearly impossible to even pop the damn HID casing open. that's with the buumper drop and the entire headlamp off the car itself. but if there is a way without having to go through all that trouble, it would be great to know.

Oh...... I forgot that it was for 2000 TL... Well... then, I am not 100% sure..
I though it was 02-03... just like mine.

that sounds great akinaboy, not sure how we would arrange that. But i'm still confused as aaronnn is. You say it is easy but others say you have to remove the bumper. What ever happened to the DIY section. Also you said e-mail? need your e-mail address. Waht is the procededure for changing the bulbs. Don't want to have to take it to the stealer!!!

... stealer = dealer?
My e-mail is akinaboy@hotmail.com.
I confused myself by thinking your tl was 02-03 just like mine.. which was easy to replace bulbs. But, for your 2000 tl, I am not 100% what the procedure is....
thanks.

here's the link for removing bumper.
http://www.abunchofcars.com/diy_page...ont_bumper.htm

but if you look for a previous thread that i made, you'll find one of me taking off the whole bumper and have pictures of how the headlamp is attached to the car. if you look at how the ballasst (HID system) is set up, its really hard to stick your hand in and reach that little screw to pop the thing off. the bulb itself is in really deep too. youre gonna have to do the whole bumper removal.. trust me. but you shouldnt worry too mcuh, the bumper removal literally takes 15 minutes, and to remove the headlamp, just unscrew the two bolts under the lamp behind the bumper and youre pretty much set.

What year TL? On the '99 you have to remove the radiator overflow tank to change the driver's side bulb, nothing to remove on the passenger side. There are instructions in the Owner's Manual for this.

any D2R's for that matter. phillips, xetronic, any other D2r's. both TLP and TLS bulbs for years 99-03 are the same.

Yes, both 2000 tl-p and 2003 use the same bulbs.. philips d2r bulbs.
on 02-03, it was easy to replace the bulbs. I think 2000 tl-p is pretty much the same...

I don't sell or carry those fog lamps, but if you need to replace bulbs in those fogs, you should look into your manual.. it shows you pictures where this one bolt is.. Not so hard as what I saw the picture, but haven't tried it.

You should open your hood and see if it would be hard to reach the door on the back of the headlight housing.

No... low beam is hid and it takes hid d2r bulbs. Your highbeam takes normal halogen bulbs and the size is 9005 I assume.

finally got a chance to look at the manual. Does any one know how you discharge the voltage out of the bulb b4 changing it out. the manual says the dealer should change due to the high voltage potential. how do i avoid getting jolted?

unhook your battery I would assume and maybe let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes just to make sure. there are alot of things that you should "take to the dealer", that you can easily do yourself.

i don't think unhooking the battery would take care of that little problem. Sounds to me like it needs to be discharged somehow. anyone ever get shocked changing out the lowbeam bulb?

I know just unhooking it probably wont get it all, because there is probably some stored up. but letting it sit will discharge it, though there may be a quicker way of doing it.

plus out of everyone on here that has changed their bulbs, I havent heard of anyone getting shocked, so Im sure you will be ok.

nope, but I'm pretty sure I will be pretty soon because they are still the original bulbs...so Ill wait on you to test my theories

haha, but seriously, I am just thinking out loud, but I really dont think you have anything to worry about - other than, be sure not to touch the new bulbs (glass part) when you put them in, because your hand oils could cause the bulbs to burst when they get hot.

probably nothing to worry abaout, just thinkin back to the older t.v.'s. even though you have it unplugged, you can still get a major jolt when working on it if you happen to touch the wrong thing.
