Post Has this ever happened to anyone?

While driving, I like to rest my right hand on the shifter. Makes it feel like I'm driving a manual again. Well several times now I've been cruising along when I accidentaly hit the shifter up into Neutral. Needless to say that I came to a complete stop before shifting back into drive (afraid of screwing up the tranny). I don't if this has happened to anyone else but I'm little concerned with this happening while driving at higher speeds and having to stop to shift back. Does anyone know if I can shift from N to D5 without messing up the tranny? Bad design IMHO.

It should be fine.

If you gas it while in neutral, you're just wasting gas. However, I would be wary to gas it while shifting from N to D5. Just shift from N to D5 and then step on gas like normal. If you step on gas while shifting, it may hurt your tranny in the long-run.

An alternative is to put your car in SS mode when at higher speeds.

If you shift back to D5 after there is a big jerk. My why around this without slowing down is to rev the car to about 3000RPM and when I go dack down nothing seems to happen. I this is really bad for the car someone tell me, otherwise it makes no sounds other than normal while I do it.

I had it happen where I thought I was in SS and tried to shift my car up, but ended up throwing into neutral. The accord is much worse than the TL though. It is very easy to put it into N if youre driving with your hand on the shifter.

I may just put into SS mode from now on when cruising the highway but I shouldn't have to do this as a work around. Neutral drops just can't be good for the car especially at high speeds. I get this vision in my head of seing the tranny falling off after this happens.

This has happened to me as well... and I did exactly the same as you, pulled over, shifted back to D5 and I was fine. I also accidentally went from D5 to D4 while I was goofing around with the Radio... but I let go the gas and shifted back to D5 while still going and it didn't have any affect.

That happens to me too. I'll drive all day in SS, get out for a few minutes jump back in and try to shift. I also have done the opposite where I will merge on to the highway in front of someone thinking I am in auto when I am in SS and since the gears won't kick down, I almost get plowed.

Nothing will happen if you slip it out of gear and into Neutral, then pop it back into d5 while moving, just keep off the gas, shift into gear while rolling, then gas, you aren't harming anything that way..

my mom's legend had that problem too. i remember once or twice when i was in her car, her purse would slide off the arm rest and hit the shifter and it would shift into neutral. pretty scary if you ask me. i always thought it might accidentally shift into reverse and we'd all be screwed. i'm so glad my 1st gen tl has that squiggally design thingy.

This happened to me once but I was stopping anyway. I was just resting my arm on the armrest when I break and my arm slid forward putting it in neutral. I never accidentally did it while driving...but I think it is safe as long as you're not accelerating. Just take ur feet off and put it back in drive.
