My '02 TLS just rolled over 5k miles...anyone else getiing some hardcore tire squawk when second gear hits? All i have is a K&N drop in filter and I can catch some seriously good tire squeal when standard or SS shifting in first and second.

Yup, me too. Especially in SS mode when I shift from 1 to 2 or shifting manually from D1 to D2

How, exactly, do you SS from 1 to 2 seeing as the computer does that for you all the time?

its just the tires... they suck. Get some better tires that have better grip and you will fly!!

 

Yup it's the sh!tty tires. With all the mods I have, I've only been able to smoke the tires once.

But are you using the SS mode??? or actually shifting in the gate??? The SS mode does NOT allow for shifts in between first and 2nd either up or down.

how come everyone on this site thinks it's such a big deal to scratch second? (even on an auto)

 

The key to chirping second is not taking it to the redline (the point which the computer will shift for you). I take it to about 6000 RPM, let go of the gas, upshift to 2 and floor it again. I can chirp second gear this way pretty much all the time.
