Had the car for 10 days...

...and crashed it

A few days ago I was heading down rt 347 (long island ny), speed limits 55, i was probably goin 65 at most, and some asshole in a hyundai jumps out from a stop and just stands in between two lanes! I take a quick right, start sliding and hit another car standing at the stop.

Worst part is, I didnt have collision yet, you know how you have to take a photo of the car with insurance? Yeah, well, I didn't really get to doing that yet. I can't claim her insurance , because she was just standing there, and the asshole who cut me off, well the cop let him go before I had the sense to take down his license plate number.

Luckily my car is repairable, I got quoted $2,800 by my regular shop, but all replacement parts will be chinese aftermarket, not original honda. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket body parts? Are they any good?

Heres the damage...

I also scuffed up the rim on the other side pretty bad, does anyone know where I can find one for cheap? I found one for 180 or 4 with tires for 600, but I dont need 4 so its a waste.

This is my first accident, that shit sucked...

ahhhhhhh. really stinks. how can that cop be so STUPID to let that guy go? didn't he cause the accident? damn! why are all the parts from China? is it cheaper there? why didnt the cop get the other guys plate if hes the one who caused the accident?

i hate when these things happen, they're all pretty avoidable, but some asshole just HAS to have his way.

well, ny state law says that if you're not hit, you're not involved...

and yeah, aftermarket chinese body parts are about 1/2 the price of OEM. for instance a new bumper is less than $200, you cant even get a j/y one for that price. Some things have to be OEM, such as the grill piece (which is almost $300, new).

its crazy tho, each fog light is about $120.

oh well, I just cant wait to get my hoopty back!

Hey man, I had a similar accident over the summer, i got aftermarket parts and they don't look right. No matter how hard they try to make it fit there are noticable gaps here and there. I know its cheaper but get the acura parts (espcailly bumper!). I'll rather try to get my parts from a junkyard or something in stead of getting aftermarket parts

gl with ur repairs

I believe that your previous insurance should cover you for the first 30 days of you owning a new car. Call your insurance provider to verify.

This helped me out when my motorcycle was stolen three days after I bought it. My auto policy covered the whole thing.

oh man that sucks!! why do you have to use chinese aftermarket parts? can't your body shop get everything oem from honda/acura? if i had to pay more for oem, i would do it. it'll save you a lot of headache and problems down the road. at any rate, gl with the repairs and i'm glad you're ok. sorry about that pos hyundai. you should have totalled the shit out of that car if you could...

You are all assuming that factory Honda parts are not made in China. Unfortunately, the US is not the only country that is sending manufacturing jobs to China.

Honda outsources the production of some of their motorcycles to China in their entirety, and now those same factories are producing the same bikes with their name on them. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the same factory that produces the bumpers for the TL that come off the assembly line produces the aftermarket bumpers that our insurance companies want us to buy.

you could very well be right. i'm not arguing that they aren't made in china. however, if they're oem and are stamped by honda/acura, they are made 100% for accuracy, durability, and fitment. how many times have we personally went the "cheaper" route and in the end having to start over and buy the one that's better? personally, i would spend a little more for "oem" just for my own peace of mind that it's not going to warp on me later down the road. that's just me though.

Sorry to see it happened. You'd rather hit the guy who cut you and get covered than trying to avoid the accident and hit someone else.

Yes I might agree with getting them Honda/Acura OEM parts instead of some knock off for fitment purpose and peace of mind. Then again whose to say those OEM parts aren't made in China either. NYC roads are horrible by the way and so are some of the drivers. I guess maybe because it is too easy to get a drivers license here.

yes, but its human nature to try and avoid a collision and thats exactly what he did, just not successfully.

here in WA alot of people get their parts from a wearhouse that gets them from TAIWAN, the fitment is horrible. the headlights get condesation every night. the gaps between, hood, fender, bumper, headlights, will be bigger and not aligned. if you're planning to resell i bet you'll get more money if you use OEM/Dealer parts but it will run you big money. just my plus dont go cheap on paint, make them blend your paint on the doors or something so its not as noticable that the car has been painted. good luck on the repairs. you might want to buy some accessories so they can paint it at the same time (will save you some money later) or the engine cover, etc...

Stick it out and try to find used or new OEM parts. Aftermarket replacement is garbage.

Look for used parts. There is nothing wrong with using used parts.

Totally agree with you. Can't blame him at all.

For the parts, you want oem parts period; even used oem parts is better then new aftermarket parts. You will regret if you used aftermarket parts. They just don't fit right. Unless, if you don't care much about cosmetic as long as the car runs, then it does not matter.

Sad sight to see a TL without a face like that (without doing the fog lights or CAI install)

Good luck with the repairs
