Pressure Bleeder for brakes
Pressure Bleeder for brakes
Today my plan is flush the brakes with some new fluid. I understand there are a couple of ways to do this: Pressure bleed, two-person method (one pumps, the other controls flow), and vacuum.
So, I made a pressure bleeder yesterday out of a garden sprayer, 0-30psi gauge, master cylinder cap and some plastic tubing. Seems like it should work great.
However, I was told by a Honda tech that power bleeding the brakes is a bad idea as it can introduce air/water in the system. He mumbled something about the ABS system too.
Just checking if anyone has had any issues using a pressure bleeder?

01tl4tl, good call on the tube through the cap, mine is a little short but I can use the turkey baster method to get to the right level.
I couldn't find a cap. Called local Honda parts, they have a cap for an Accord that will probably work, but it's $31.
So I made one out of an electrical box plate and a sheet of rubber gasket material. Probably have $2.00 into it. I'll take a picture later and post it here.
Thanks

As long as the hose doesn't extend too far in- and suck all the fluid out when you depressurize, no prob- the turkey baster is DIYrs best friend
Yes the accord cap fits, any honda 6cyl will do actually, but hard to grab the cap off at junkyard
Pics please!!!!!, I need to help another ziner with the failed front caliper syndrome and upgrade to Legend 2 piston calipers for the same price, would be nice to complete my project, Have the pump, cut tip off spray wand, plenty of line and clamps, just need a cap and pressure guage.
A DIY build pic set would help everyone. The only DIY here is for a BMW and list their cap # not ours which is way bigger than bimmers
With as many times as I am playing with my brakes and bleeding them before and after fun days/track day, a pressure bleeder is a must.
16 psi is good- 20 is max to protect ABS parts.
Always use fresh brand new fluid from a sealed contained with the seal under the cap on.
Any fluid left over 6 months in an opened sealed container is garbage/hazmat not garbage can.
Brake fluid absorbs moisture right past the caps oring, and in a can will turn it bad.
That would be the techs concern, old moist fluid be used--- like a shop that wouldnt empty the container each use.
My preferance is Valvoline Synthetic DOT4 6 bucks a qt which is plenty to flush a TL brake system. You can run hi perforamce fluids if SS brakes lines are installed, otherwise not worth the extra dollars.
Some of us drive like escaped mental patients, others are on valid day release

Here's some pictures of the bleeder I made. All parts except the gauge are available at a Lowes or Home Depot. I had to pick up the gauge at a local hardware store, it was $9.00. The gauge is made for an acetylene torch and it says 'use no oil', so I doubt getting brake fluid in it would be a good thing. There may be other gauges out there that would work better.
The only reservation I have about this project is that when you pressurize the air/fluid, it could force moisture into the fluid. Maybe some kind of bladder would be better to isolate the air from the fluid. Anyone ever researched that?
Here's the pics:

I still need to connect it and check for leaks. If I could find an old cap, that would better. I guess this way it 's universal and can be used on all of my vehicles.
Hope is saves you loads of time!
